				| I sent another email to the CRA today asking about the availability of the meyer lemon/blood orange hybrid...
  	  | MarcV wrote: | | Do you have any idea when the lemon/blood orange cross may become available? |

Two hours later I received a reply...

  	  | Santo Recupero wrote: | | Yes, as soon as the CRA of Rome will sell the patent, probably to one or more italian nurseryman.
So I think it may take several months and this nursery production will become available not before 2014.

 Kind regards,

 Santo Recupero

				| What makes this one special is that the fruit is striped with anthocyanin and the flowers are said to have red anthoccyanin specks on them. I'm not aware of any other citrus that has these characteristics. It may not have any value for eating but it will certainly be good looking! And for me that's perfectly ok because almost none of my citruses are good enough for eating, except maybe the acid ones. I just can't provide a good climate for growing good citrus fruit. _________________

				| All fruits get good, but it can take much time in a cool climate ...
To have a real good producing tree, you must plant it into ground and have a hothouse ...

				| As I mentioned at page n.4 of this topic :
"...Grech and his colleagues have retained an exclusive license for Mandared in the United States, and have assigned the rights to propagate the variety to Willits & Newcomb Nursery, which may have trees
available as soon as spring 2008. They may be marketed as Red Nules, added Mr. Grech..."

So, budwood of Mandared (R) is licensed in the USA under market name Red Nules.

				| Okay, I can now weigh in on this, as I know the folks up at Willits & Newcomb in Bakersfield, CA. Nice, nice folks, by the way. As with many really special cultivars, this one is under a strict growing patent. Only a handful of commercial growers have entered into contract with W&N to grow this mandarin. Cannot get it unless you're one of those commercial growers (similar set up to the Dekopon and Griffiths Farms). I have posted a message on W&N's Facebook page, asking when we might see some Red Nules in the marketplace, no response, yet. I may send them a regular email. Have not seen anything in the stores, or at the Farmers Markets, yet, but cannot get to the market today, so I'll have to check next Saturday. For my California forum members, keep your eyes out for them, possibly will see the first crop this season. Collect those seeds! _________________

				| As I mentioned at the page no.5 of this topic
It is very late variety - harvest time in Italy March - April so you can expect it in stores at spring.

I know nurseries, where they sell this plant, so I will do my best to get it.. | |
