TRI,
I know exactly what you're talking about. I moved to Boston from FL. I actually enjoy winters up here, the cold is not that bad. Although, it would be nice if winter was 1-2 months shorter, it takes an awful long time for New England to warm up in the spring/summer.

I think our weather preferences change as we age. When I was young the winter was my favorite time when it was sometimes cold especially the 1980s. Despite several severe cold spells in 1980s there was only snowfall in 1989. The other freezes like December 1983 and January 1985 were very cold but no snow! I could not deal with the reality that we got cold but very rarely snow and when it did snow we got only a few inches lasting only a few hours. Early in my life I wanted to live in Minnesota where it is possible to build a snow man every winter. How times change!

With each passing winter I wish more and more I was one of those Canadian snowbirds that fly south to Florida Very Happy The winters are much milder here than they were 25 years ago but I still find that they are too cold for me Smile

Did your plants suffer after this recent cold snap? I thought winter weather was over three weeks ago. Hopefully no more cold spells.

Great point. I have been holding my breath for weeks. Lots of people have been talking about fertilizing and lots of citrus blooms, even around here. None of my citrus have broken dormantcy so far. The official low two days ago was 26*F. Lots of sunshine lately. Higher temps are sure to follow.

My daddy used to say that the old people said when the pecan trees start budding out it is time to take off your shoes and go fishing. I think pecans are the last thing around here to break dormancy. That is usually about the first week in April here in Montgomery. I have a friend and some grandchildren that are ready to go. Tom
