My citrus collection - 2012
Today I sampled one of my salustiana oranges. Not very large but very juicy. Unfortunately not very tasty, but we did have a bad summer...
A few pictures:

I harvested the rest of my salustiana oranges today. 5 mandarin sized oranges, with a total weight of 550g. What surprised me was the deep orange color...
Good for one large glass of juice!
Taste wasn't exactly spectacular though, but not too bad either...
My wife and daughter both found it too soar. _________________ - Marc |

I think my two feminello lemons are almost ripe. The question is... how can I be sure? I only have 2, that doesn't leave much room for trying...
In reality they look a little greener then shown on the pictures...
Valencia late : still no sign of ripening...
And this is a picture of my star ruby grapefruit tree, or what's left of it. This was once one of my prettiest plants!
Last summer/fall it started losing nearly all of it's leaves. I don't know what caused this, maybe it's the result of excessive rainfall resulting in overwatering.
But as you can see it's not dead yet, plenty of flower buds are appearing. I wonder if that's a problem with such a small number of leaves left. Maybe it's better to remove the flower buds?

Your lemons should be good to use now. I find with lemons, once they start to break color they are fine. They are not like oranges that to to build up sugars to sweeten up. _________________ Wal-Mart a great place to buy cheap plastic crap ! http://walmartwatch.com/ ...

I cut one of the lemons off yesterday. Taste was good but it was not very juicy and not as acid as I expected.
I also cut off some of the rind and ate it fresh, and that was a really nice surprise! It tasted exactly like limoncello, a delicious lemon perfume in the mouth that seemed to last forever! _________________ - Marc |

Last time I tried chewing a lime rind, I ended up just not feeling my tongue anymore... From then on, i use the lemon/lime peel only in the lime pie... |

That wasn't my experience! In the beginning there was a slight bitterness but that quickly went away... _________________ - Marc |

Hmm, taste of rind should depend on variety...
Considering my home-grown lemons: I'm with Marc on it. _________________

Marc, is there any chance to have sweet orange fruits in your area from your citrus trees? |

Well, taste is not really that good but it's not really bad either.
Of course, they are good for me because I've grown them myself! _________________ - Marc |

It's still looking the same as on the picture I posted recently. It's definitely not dying. We'll see what happens when daytime temperatures start to rise... _________________ - Marc |

I went to Germany this week, but unfortunately I didn't make it to the nurseries I originally planned to visit. So I just mail ordered a couple of plants instead!
A seville orange and an etrog citron will soon join my collection! _________________ - Marc |
