A big box came in today with the new plants...
Inside the box...
A nice specimen of citrus medica 'Etrog', a bit larger than I expected...
...and the seville orange, a bit smaller than I expected.
I actually hoped for a grafted plant but apparently this is a seedling, probably supposed to be used as a rootstock. _________________ - Marc |

Nice trees Marc. Your Etrog tree is absolutely gorgeous! As for the Seville orange, I would also say it is a roughly three years old seedling, rather than anything else. Anyhow, it's a very attractive and nicely shaped tree, too. |

Most people would never buy a Etrog tree if it was a grafted tree. Only the non grafted trees are the type that can be used in religious services. I realize if the buyer is not Jewish it might not matter either way. But a great number of Etrog trees sold, are sold to people of the Jewish persuasion, or collectors that want the"official" Etrog tree in their collection. . - Millet |

I heard that Kosher etrog is more complicated thing, than just it has to be a seedling. Usage of pig manure for fertilizing is prohibited and many other things, also fruit itself has to be "perfect" - with remains of flower on the nipple etc. |

I believe that even the seed has to come from a kosher plant!...
Actually I just wanted to have a citron tree. I used to have a buddha's hand but it died, probably from root rot. But this time I wanted to have a plant with "conventional" fruit...
I wasn't sure about getting an etrog because of the religious background, but then I realised that in the end the etrog is just another citrus species and the religious stuff is just a label we people stick on the plants. That's just my point of view of course... _________________ - Marc |

Of course! Enjoy your plant.
And about religion background, Jesus said, all food is kosher, because not what you eat, but what you think, or your behavior to the others, is crucial in the eyes of God, not the food you eat. Food only goes through your body and ends in compost. |

Today I tasted the second of the two lemons of my feminello plant. I was extremely pleased with the quality of this fruit! It was the best lemon I ever tasted, better even than store bough lemons!

Yes, the rind is delicious also! I did eat some pieces of it!
I hope the next season will bring me more lemons! _________________ - Marc |

I didn't take pictures of the fruit as my wife wanted to keep it for her tea, so I couldn't cut the fruit to pieces, take a few pictures and eat it completely as I initially wanted to do.
But as the fruit isn't completely consumed yet, here are a few of what's left of it! Just another lemon! But a very good one!

It looks yummy indeed... I usually put half a lemon in my green tea, no matter how juicy it is... |

I personally don't like tea with lemon. I like the acidity of a lemon but not when it's hot! I remember that, when I was a kid, my mother made me drink hot lemon juice when I had a flu. That was absolutely horrible! _________________ - Marc |
