Well, I never!!! I just did a Google to see what a seedling pineapple actually looks like and - well - here you all are!!!

I'm from the UK Very Happy Shocked and belong the a gardening forum. Earlier this year we were all chatting about unusual things to grow from seeds and, well, I often buy fresh pineapples and had noticed the seeds within, so I said I was going to try and grow some!

Long story short, I planted about 20 and 1 seems to have germinated but it's ever so long and frond-like, hence the Google search. Tomorrow I'll get a photo (it's midnight here!) and post it so you can see because I'm not at all sure it is a pineapple!!

Look forward to chatting with y'all by and by!!

those are great, what patience you must have!

I had 2 crowns take this year. i tried baggy-ing the seeds, im not the best at keeping seeds moist, and nothing. May try again, but crowns took right off for me.

Oh.. thought I'd updated this page..

Not too long after this last picture was taken I lost the smallest of the three.. They all three dried up ( because of the HOT weather) and a wind blew over the plastic container... I could only find the two larger ones.. I promptly watered them and put them back where they were.. I moved them to a less windy location a day or two later.. But their health quickly declined.. the little peat pellets dried out TOO fast.. It got down to one hanging on by a thread and I potted it in a super mini pot but it did not survive.. I could not water them enough while out side..

Oh well.. It was a fun experiment.. For those others that might want or are trying this I highly recommend if you put them outside place them in a container.. the pellets dry out too fast to keep up with.. They would have been ok if I had kept them inside or put them in a container that would not let them dry out... when they get too dry the tips of the plant brown quickly..
Though.. even potting it up did not save it... I should have just brought it inside for some R&R... here is the last picture of it....

Welcome Michael!! Hope my notes help you out!!!

That is the problem i find with using peat pellets they dry out to quickly and are poor in nutrients and nutrient holding because they are peat.
