I will Post Pics of my pineapple seedlings in a few days..
They have survived very well the "cleaning" but they were just dipped..
Unfortunately I won't be able to get pics of exact same two in same position etc.. I have placed some in a pot and have placed some in peat pellets.. seeing how they fair in each.. So far the potted ones don't seem happy about it.. but they don't have the green house to keep them snuggly all the time and humidity not as high.. I might slip them back in to the greenhouse in peat pellets.. the ones I put in peat pellets seem happy.. ( I put them in with my sons lemon seedlings) But I have Been focusing my concentration on keeping the citrus going.. Still holding my breath..
Looking forward to your pics Westwood!! yours too Dale!!!

that is sad.. guess it will just be Tourist stuff only now.. and we will probably see more and more store bought pineapples with seeds.. I read that the Hawaii pineapples are seedless becaue they have no humming birds one of the top politators of pineapples.. Guess if my grand kids will ever eat fresh Hawiian pineapples they will have to go to Hawaii on vacation to do it..
as for my seedlings....
Here are a few pictures.... I have tried varying places for the pineapples..
this is what I have learned...
they are UNHAPPY without their greenhouse... (two of these are same as taken with the dime)
they are fairly happy in the mini greenhouse...
But the ones that are happiest of all right now I put in a bowl and covered them with saran wrap!
I was worried that they would cook in the bowl with the saran wrap covering them as they were sitting on Christmas lights and directly in the midday sun.. but they are very happy there.. I think it is due to the fact that they do not have very developed roots yet and the bowl with the saran over it provides the highest humidity level.. seems to me the ones that I put in the pot are just flat out unhappy.. I have since this photo put one in the bowl and the other two in the green house.. we will see how much if any difference it makes..
I think only one of the seedlings didn't make it.. but it was already not doing well..
any way that is the latest on the pineapple seedlings!!

Junglekeeper pointed me here after seeing a post of mine on another forum asking how to properly propagate a pineapple top. Thanks, Jungle! This board looks awesome. I've been reading the different threads for about the last hour.
Saved the best for last! I have a top from a Del Monte Gold Extra Sweet from Costa Rica as BabyBlue mentioned they were growing seeds from. It's currently been prepped and is sitting in a cool, dry, shady spot to 'cure' before planting.
Seeing the pics and info in this thread make me believe I may actually get one to grow; a pineapple that is. I have a sunroom full of plants of various kinds. This will be my first fruit. Keeping my fingers crossed. |

The Calamondin seems to be in a holding pattern.. The Meyer STICK still has some green on it so I have not given up on it yet..
Hopefully with spring right around the corner they will perk up and snap out of it..

Now that I have read this thread and have watched the growth of your seeds. Well, I ended up going out and to get what ? you guessed it a PINEAPPLE. I just could not resist any longer with your recent pic's. I had a pineapple back in 1993 that I grew in my apartment. It did not get very big (except the amazing scent) but it tasted GREAT. The label on the pineapple says Premium Gold, super sweet and the brand is Frontera. I'm going to remove the top and let it sit upside down for a day or two before cutting it up. Wish me luck. I hope I get as lucky as you were with the seeds.
