I called and spoke to UC Davis about the fig cuttings yesterday. They said that Feb. 20 or the 27 is the sheduled ship date! Vinny

Thanks for the update Vinny! I sure hope temps here warm up a bit when they arrive.

I just got a email shipment notification from Fedex.
Says, Company name: USDA, ARS, PWA...sent by Angelique Crowell.
This would have to be my 17 fig cuttings -- shipped overnight so I should get them tomorrow. So glad temps are above freezing FINALLY!
It's enough time to find a tray to stick them in. Sure was a long wait! Anyone else get the notification?

Hey Patty, I just got the email also. It will be sent overnight. I'm curious to see if I will get all that I asked for. Same here, now I got to prepare for them. Vinny

He-he-he, the campus is just a stone's throw away and am not that interested in figs yet! I could snip off cultivars from the fields myself as the "germplasm" seem to be nearby the field house where I used to count rice grains. Safer for you to order from them directly.

They arrived at 10:30 this am. Of 17 ordered, I got 14. Did not get Alma, Black Fig 1, & Ischia Black. And, they were bundled 3 of each..except only 1 Celeste & 1 Violette De Bordeaux (which I read is really Negronne).
I snipped off about 1/2 " off bottom & dipped in hormone & they are in tray in hallway. That's almost 40 more figs! I might have a plant sale this summer LOL.

Hey you guys,
How much did you pay for the Fig cuttings? If you don't want to announce world wide PM me. I am just wondering. What is the Website for figs at UC Davis anyway? I am wondering what else they send budwood of? Citrus, figs and ???
Darren

Hi Darren, all the cuttings were free. They even paid 1 day fedex shipping!
Lets see, go to the thread "My fig trees are waking up" in this forum & Vinny posted the link on page one or two. They have other fruits too - like kiwi & ?.you'll have to look at it. There is also a order form there you can print out. I believe they do cuttings twice a yr. We were s'posed to get ours last July but they notified us that they would ship in Jan. I think this might be a good time to order. Here's the link - just found it.

Hey, I got them today too!! 10 out of 13 were sent. Verte, Adriatic & Brunswick were the ones not sent. Yes, most were 3 cuttings each for a total of 24 cuttings!! For the price you can't beat it! They even paid to overnight it. I guess our taxes in the long run pay for it. It should be an interesting season with all these figs! Vinny

Ha Ha Darren, I bet you have your order made out already LOL
Was thinking today that what if I was gone & didn't see email. When doorbell rang, I saw Fedex guy drive away. He left box in between doors. They would've froze by tonight.

I got 4 of 5 I requested. 1-3 cuttings of each.

Ive got 2 gold/yellow, and 2 purple/black.

I planted them in 2 different big tall pots together. I used the shipping bag as a humidity dome for one bag. behind my citrus table, some filtred sun and next to my tomato starting lights.

Good luck everyone!
