Dont give up yet!
When I saw Eyeckers good starts, i went out, trimmed the obviously dead bits off, cut the bark, and liberaly rooting-hormoned the ends. Cut some of the twigs in half like he did.....
Some are still deader than a doornail, and have been pulled and given up on, but several have some bud/leaf or rooting from the submerged buds!
Ive split them up into individual pots (had some darn bugs.... nematodes, wiggly somethings)
Wish me luck! |

Oh good! Glad to hear some are sprouting.
So, I should maybe cut the top half off the dead looking ones? What about the bottom? Should I just leave them to root? _________________ Patty

Patty, some of mine are breaking bud near the top, some halfway down, some at the base. I don't think I would cut any just yet. |

I had some rotting bases of a few of the cuttings, I went ahead and gently dug mine up to make sure I wasnt leaving sick cuttings with others.
Now all the cuttings that are showing promise have their own cup/ planter so bugs dont spread.
congrats to all those who are getting results! and very sorry to those who arent. Im still not sure if any will pull through, but im trying. |

It is early yet, but it appears I have almost 95+% bud break and rooting on my grape cuttings (over 100) and probably 85% bud break and rooting on my pomegranates. The only bad luck I have had so far is with the olive cuttings. Less than 25% appear to be doing well. None of the olive cuttings look completely dead, but some look past helping. I just checked my cuttings and I was suprised to see how well the 2 (panachee & conadria) are doing. Both have about 5 roots around 2" long! I plan on potting them up soon. All my others show no sign of roots. This weekend will be 5 weeks. Vinny _________________ www.bigapplebonsai.com |

HAPPY for you Vinny! 2 of how many you rooted so far?
I think I see a root started in one of 7 that is in water but that's it so far.
Nope...just checked & I don't see it anymore Still trying. _________________ Patty

Over the weekend I noticed that one of the cuttings that I had in potting mix finally put out roots! It's the Conadria, the same type that I was able to root in water. All my others, 20 something still show no signs of life. The Panachee & other Conadria that I rooted in water I did finally pot up and put outside. How are you making out Patty? This SUCKS No sign of green growth & no roots on any - even 7 that are in water! I did take a cutting on a low branch of my White Genoa a month ago & just stuck it in pot....it's doing good! _________________ Patty

Of the 10 varieties I got, I think I have some growth on 7. Three varieties are "no growth to date" as we like to say. Of the 28 cuttings I got, I have growth on about 14. I have started opening the ziplocks to wean them out to the regular GH environment.
Unfortunately, the Calimyrna is among the best growers, and I won't be able to get that one pollinated. I guess I could trade it. SB |

Oh that's right, that's the one that needs a special wasp. I don't understand why cuz all other figs don't need to be pollinated-- they just grow.
Out of 38 cuttings, I got ZERO, NADDA, ZILCH. I'll still give them some more time before I burn them. _________________ Patty

I have been able to possibly save 2 cuttings- a Deanna and an Excel- someone here stated they had cuttings in shade near a faucet- I have mine in mostly shade- they get some sun from across the room. the Excel was just potted up, roots had reached the bottom of the container.
Maybe in 2-3 years at this rate, I can root cuttings and pass these 2 varieties on! |

I carefully pulled one Excel out & saw a 1 1/2" growth under soil! No roots on though, & one other excel has a green "bump" under soil ready to do something. My only Celeste in water looked mushy, so I peeled bark, stuck in hormone & put in soil. I heard they taste good, so I am hoping this does something. _________________ Patty
