Since we always have mandarins and oranges at home that we bought at the supermarket, I started wondering if it is possible to use the seeds of these citrus for propagation?

Would they need a couple of weeks of stratification? They are always kept cool so it could be possible that they are ready to to be potted immediatelly? _________________ growing (at least trying): C. sinensis, C. latifolia, C. limon, C. mitis |

I am currently growing Mandarin, Meyer Lemon, Trifoliate orange, and kumquat seedlings from grocery store fruits.
One thing to remember is that seed grown trees will take longer to flower and fruit than a tree that is grafted using mature buds/branches.
It may take anywhere from 3-15 years for seedling citrus to fruit, depending on type of citrus.
On the other hand, compared to buying grafted trees, growing your own from seed is practically free (and sometimes easier to obtain). If you have the time and place for them to grow, then have fun! |

What??? You don't have trifoliate oranges in your grocery store? You are missing out on a taste sensation! yum!
Oops, no ha ha.. that was a mistake....no the trifoliate orange seeds I got from a tree near where I live.
No, we are not in the habit of selling disgusting fruit in our grocery stores around here |

Tomorrow me and my moms will take a trip to the supermarket and besideds a shopping card filled with stuff that I don't really need, I think I'll put some oranges and mandarins in it too.
If everything goes well, tomorrow I'll plant the first seeds.
Does a regular potting soil meet the requirements for citrus seeds? _________________ growing (at least trying): C. sinensis, C. latifolia, C. limon, C. mitis |
