Cooled down to upper 80's today but very humid. Barometer almost 70%. Calling for 90's & high humidity for another week Crying or Very sad .
JoeReal, is any of your 'working' wines overflowing? I have 5 gallons of elderberry working & last time I racked, I left more that a inch airspace. It's overflowing through the airlock (I call it a trap)!!! It's my own personal barometric pressure notice Laughing . When the pressure goes down, there will be airspace at top again. Weatherman says bp is near 70. Pretty high...like my own B.P. LOL

Mine did not overflow. I had 2 of my 5 gallon carboy exploded. What a mess in the garage. These are the ones I have sealed off with painter's tape over the rubber bung. These are 17% abv, so no way they are fermenting. Have filtered them and are aging and have more than an inch space. but due to thermal expansion, the weak glass cannot hold the pressure and cracked. I still have 50 gallon left standing.

OOOH NO! All that work & now a big mess! May I ask why you taped off the bung? The airlock is there to let gasses out so it doesn't explode. I don't understand why it was taped off. (?) The log that I have hanging around the carboy neck now is red w/ wine overflowing & I thought that was bad! Oh, I feel bad for you...to waste 10 gal's of wine...& the MESS!
3 yrs ago I bottled 5 gal's of wine too soon I guess, & I saw 2 corks out of 2 bottles 3 months later in wine rack in basement. They blew out & wine ran out..warm summer made it start up again. I reopened all of that batch & put it back in carboy to finish working. It's tasting REAL good now!!!! But, Siphoning out of bottles - it foamed up so much I was choking on the gasses! I shoulda just poured slowly... maybe.
My X & I picked a bunch of grapes last yr & after picking & sorting, crushed the juice out (2 days work). He bought those cheapo gallon freezer bags (not zip lock), & when he put them in his freezer...in garage, they busted open & went all over him & garage floor, but he saved 50 cents on baqs! What a waste & mess. Coulda made 10 gal's of wine with that! We live & learn don't we?
May I add that your wine may still have been working at 17 ABV? I think that's why it exploded.... esp. in this heat. Sometimes heat can bring it on. I read that you should let wine work for at least 2 summers before botteling....I didn't that time.

Well, I taped it off as temporary measure as I ran out of airlocks, but in the hope of bottling it up before the heat wave. I stashed those inside the big cabinets in the garage, and then we were busy with the room addition project and forgot about those two carboys that I taped "temporarily". I was only reminded when one day I came home and was wondering why the garage smells so good with nice fine wine aroma...

Whooopsy, I said Barometer was 70 but I meant to say DEW POINT was 70. Today dew point is 72 -humidity 84%.Barometric pressure going up is what makes my wine overflow.

Pensacola has been hot-- highs in the mid to upper 90's--with 90+% humidity, but that is normal for us. I am sure that upper 90's or even 100+ is rough for those that don't see it that often.

Patty-- as for your AC having higher relative humidity inside than out, it is possible that it is just the effect of cooling (absolute himidity should be down), but it is also possible that your cenrtal AC drain is plugged. I just had that problem-- when that happens, your AC condenses moisture on the coils which drip into the pan below, but since it can't drain, it evaporates again into the air going through the ducts and back into the house.

Hi Skeeter, thanks. I just went down & checked the 2 hoses coming from furnace to drain. There is water dripping out of them. Furnace & AC was just put in last year Feb. It just turned off now at 77* & it's 62% humidity. If I wan't less humidity, I'll have to go to 75* & then I'll freeze.
Outside now is 83* & 72%. I'll bet when the ac kicks back on it'll be more than 72% in here. I think I got a lemon.
I called the AC place again Fri & the guy said to get a dehumidifier. That's NUTS!

You should have a minimum of a 1 year warranty. I would tell them to get out & fix it, or refund your money & you will go somewhere else...

It's been 45 minutes since AC shut off & humidity is now 68% ---- was 62 at shut off time. My house is well insulated so it won't start back up soon. In the meantime, humidity will go up.
Next 2 days will be 100's & high humidity. Guess I'll have to threaten the company tomorrow. S'posed to a good brand...Amana 2 stage.
Laaz, what's the temp & humidity outside & inside your home?
(or anyone?) Thanks

ICK!!! My poor baby is probably sweatin his behind off..
Laaz.. My Oldest is on Ft Jackson base right close to you.. He started back in June.. His Graduation is coming up August 25th.. Not sure if he'd be better off here.. other than his momma wouldn't have him face down in the dirt doin pushups...
The temps are back up here.. 100s yesterday today and again tomorrow.. Said to cool back down to 90s and 80s by Wed when we should get some rain..
My thermometer BROKE!!! it is stuck at 110* F!!! weather.com says it is 86* (heat index 87*) and only 45% humidity.. But my "antique" indoor out door thermometer is stuck sayin it is 110* out..
Again Window AC is workin and not doing all that great.. It finally cooled down to 79* INSIDE.. Poor window units can't keep up.. and will be a couple more days before it will get a break.. Have to take a shower and sit directly in front of a fan to keep cool during the day.. Will be soo glad when the temps stay BELOW 100 mark for more than just a few days...

Gina you poor thing. That's bad when the heat breaks your thermometer!!
Your son is in bootcamp training in this heat!!?? Holy cow. I guess I shouldn't complain about my AC..at least it's keeping me cool. I remember years I had no AC & it was unbearable hot so we slept on living rm couch & floor with just a ceiling fan on above to keep air moving.
Next couple days will be the hottest in 4 yrs....not looking FWD!! Ooooh, I hate to see my next electric bill.

My indoor humidity runs about 58% at a temp of 78. Outside humitidy runs 80 to 95% depending on time of day.

My AC guy is a friend, he was telling me there is a new type system out that uses a variable speed fan and a humidity monitor. After the initial cooling, it slows the fan down to remove more humidity. Very efficient.
