This hasn't been my experience. I've had half the stump die when I didn't use the sealer on texas bark grafts. A friend who does bonzai suggested the black sealer and it has helped my grafts. I wouldn't put it on cracks though.

Concerning the use of sealants, I remember a post by Dr. Manners advising against the use of the common black sealant, as citrus trees heal much better on their own. If anyone is interest, they can find that post, and any other opinions that might have been written about the use of sealants (either for or against) by using the search function. Millet (745-)

MrTexas, Millet,

thank you very much for your suggestions!

I also had somewhat contradictory results while using the sealant on citrus in the past and noticed that wounds seem to heal faster without it. I am not sure whether this is correct but I have used it this time hoping to prevent infections, fungi, etc. from entering the crack. I may remove the sealant in the spring though.

Happy New Year and thank you all for all your help and concern!!!!!
