Here's one of my kumquat trees, it's doing pretty much fine and now is just about to flower again. It has got couple of small flower buds in the leaf axils, but not as much as 'Nagami' which already burst into flowers like 2nd or 3rd time this year.
I forgot to label the tree, but it seems to me like it is yet another 'Meiwa' kumquat. What's your best guess identifying this variety?
Thank you!

This is crazy. My satsuma mandarin is putting out flowers again (it's now almost middle of October)... Just look at the axils along the stems.
This is the first time it is happening too any of C. unshiu varieties in my backyard.
Take care,
Igor |

Igor, beautiful trees! Do your kumquats and satsumas give you good crops? |

I might be wrong but looking to the flower bud for me it looks to be a kumquat and not satsuma. |

Thanks Lemandarangequatelo! Generally yes, both, kumquats and satsumas are heavy bearers. At least I have always been rewarded for growing them. This is the first time it flowers since it was grafted in 2010. I got the budwood from a good friend of mine (who doesn't have any orangequats) labeled as satsuma mandarin. Although there is a chance that either one of us swapped the labels, I actually do not believe this is to be true. Flowers (buds) undoubtedly resemble those of a kumquat, however neither its leaves or its growth habit do! We'll see how it develops... But thanks for your feedback guys!

I would agree, it's some type of kumquat or kumquat hybrid. Satsuma will set a off season flower here and there, but not a flush of flowers like that.
Maybe a limequat? _________________ Wal-Mart a great place to buy cheap plastic crap ! http://walmartwatch.com/ ...

You got me confused. So now I really don't know what to think. Either way, I'll keep you updated, if it sets any fruit. |

I'm currently seeing flowers appear on a number of my plants too... star ruby grapefruit, sanguinelli and salustiana oranges, meyer lemon and maybe some other plants... I hope this won't ruin the spring flowering...
On the other hand, my bergamot usually starts producing flower buds during fall/winter. These buds do not open until spring though... _________________ - Marc
