This morning I checked the tree again, and there's newer batches of flowers! perhaps 7th already. I will snip these off from now on as there is not enough season left to have them filled up to something big enough to eat.

My multi-grafted Coffee Cake persimmons are starting to ripen. It is not yet September. Truly non-astringnet when pollinated as the seeded sections tasted outstanding while the seedless sectors are somewhat astringent.

The fruits of my Fuyu, Zengi Maru, Giant Fuyu and others are still all very green.

I have just grafted the early types Matsumoto and Izu this year and hopefully they will produce fruits earlier than Coffee Cake in our area.

What is your earliest ripening persimmons?

I only have one variety- Fuyo and they ripe November/December. Hopefully some of your persimmons will go on my way sometime.

That will all soon change Benny!

Persimmons are one of the last varieties you would bark graft in the spring, so there's plenty of time to graft them.

Meanwhile, I will be bottling some sweet and high Fuyu persimmons for you and your wife. They're coming out good.

I did a double blind taste test on my wines last weekend when my sister-in-law decided to try it in our house instead of Napa. Persimmon wine came out comparable to gold medal wine based on the scores done by friends. We evaluated 6 commercial wines, one with double gold medal award best of show and another one with gold medal, the rest are silver medals, and then I have them score alongside my 16 fruit wines. I transferred all the wines into sterilized bottles labeled only with numbers and have them score the wines. Persimmon wine score was comparable with the sweet Gold Medal wine.

So when we meet again, you will have your custom bottle of persimmon wine.

Oh,
I am most flattered with your offer and I thank you Joe.

Had you said this last year I had so much Fuyo I did not know what to do with them. Because before Spring time I really pruned all of my persimmons drastically so they don't go over the fence. As a result I don't see too much fruit this year.

Would have hit it big time if I were a commercial scale persimmon grower.

I went to major farmer's market in the Sacramento area that I know of. None of them have any persimmons yet! So practically I would have named my price.

I have been enjoying my ripe Coffee Cake persimmons since last week. It is a pollination non-astringent variant, and with my multi-grafts, it was pollinated and so can be eaten while still firm.

I also have my Zengi Maru starting to ripen. This persimmon once it changes color, suddenly becomes soft-ripe. Very soft-ripe but not that sweet. It is also a good pollinator to my pollination variant persimmons.

Maybe the timing is just a fluke due to my multi-graft interaction. One more year to observe.

Gina, most of the fruits have been eaten, only a few are left. Had no time to take pics. I was the first person in the city to have ripe persimmon fruits. I have been enjoying each one. Even the new grafts this year like the matsumoto fruited and produced three big seedless fruits that are firm ripe. The first to ripen were Coffee Cake persimmon, which has a prolonged harvest, then Matsumoto, then the numerous new ones. Still, I have a few more coffee cake ripening. The next ones would be Giant Fuyu, Korean K-4, Geneva Long, Zengi Maru and Fuyu. There are still some new cultivars with green fruits on them. But there are few fruits just about one to two per cultivar.

Because of this thread I just looked at my Fuyo fruits and surprised they are now orange in color.
I usually harvest them late November/December and doesn't pay attention to them.
I did not expect it but it must be the global warming trend.

you will be posting pics won't you Benny??

I am itching to get out to my moms and check hers.. I am going to get some seeds.. plant them in pots and leave them outside to germinate.. maybe by next spring I will have seedlings and be able to graft them the following year.. Will be nice to have my own persimmon..

Mom's trees by the pond aren't very big and should be small enough that I won't need a ladder to graft to them in the spring..

Joe, Got to remember to take "show off" pics now and then.. so the rest of us know what we are missing.. Wink

OK Gina : I just took a couple of pics and here they are:

I have sparsely fruits this year due to I drastically pruned them before the spring came because they were growing over the fence.
Here’s a couple pix

And oh, thanks for the lime recipe.
I am going to try them soon.

Benny, check your PM. There should be persimmon wine waiting for you somewhere. It has your name and your wife's name on it.
