So what is this colored citrus? Is it still yet another Italian citrus (Tarocco) crossed with yet another Blood Orange? - Millet

I put it in category - pigmented hybrids, but in fact, according to this article: http://www.freshplaza.it/news_detail.asp?id=49722
it seems, that this Tarocco orange tree was found in garden of agronom Corrado Vigo located in the district Petraro, in the municipality of Francofonte six years ago. Owner noticed, that his Tarocco reach very good pigmentation much faster than common Tarocco - in November - and it creates perfect coloration without weather condition usually needed to create good coloration. So, may be it is mutation or what. If I understand it right, it just finished procces of acreditation as a new variety of Tarocco orange named "Tarocco Vigo" in "Dipartimento di Coltivazioni Arboree della Facoltà di Agraria di Catania.

It almost sounds like this is the perfect orange... knowing that tarocco is among the best for taste and it does not need the favourable conditions for pigmentation.
But as usual with new varieties, it will be hard, if not impossible to find...

In this article Mr. Vigo described , that the taste of "tarocco Vigo" resembles mix of strawbery and raspberry. He also stated, that pulp of the fruit left on the tree during winter changed colour from red to purple to nearly black without affecting the good taste. He also stated, that during the years of his observation this mutation is stabile and can be considered as a new clone of Tarocco.

I'm not entirely sure what he's saying though... Smile

It will, unfortunately, still clicked down year.
thanks
