Been working on final sanding of north wall in sunroom...like a dog yest. So, so tired. Woke up this am & saw messg on answer machine but had coffe first. Then, I noticed back door was wide open-- I thought maybe wind blew it open? Thought I locked it as usual. Messg, at 8:15 am was from my bank saying that they suspect fraudulant activity on my VISA & to call them. I immediately looked for my purse & it was gone. Called them & there were 6 transactions from 6:43 till 7:04 am at 2 gas stations. They will not charge me for that. I must have a good bank cuz if they didn't call me, I still wouldn't notice my purse gone...was planning on working here all day & not going anywhere. The real problem is, 2 sets of my car & house keys were in there too! Where normally I set my keys down on island - coffee table etc only to hunt for them when I leave, I was a good girl & put them in my PURSE. Had HD, Menards, Kohl's credit cards & a checkbook in there. MY LIFE is in my purse! Been on phone all day cancelling . Called my dearlership & my warranty covered towing & car rental for 1 day. My alarm was set & they have to order remotes from Illinoise to get them tomorrow. Will cost me $250.00 for 2 keys & remotes. Hopefully my HO will cover. I rode to dealer in towtruck & they called car rental place to bring me a car.... they wouldn't let me take it cuz of no drivers license. It's in my purse!!!! Dealer gave me ride home & will pick me up tomorrow. I have no cash, no D. license & it will take 5 days to get another visa/check card. I think this was someone who was caseing me...knowing I live alone...don't have a dog anymore. My neighbor leaves his back door unlocked all the time. My car is gone tonight so if they (he) comes by, it will look like I'm not home. He has all my keys to get in. I changed chambers on 2 dooors but can't do anything with back door so have outside light on & big heavy table up to door so I will hear if they try to get in. Will have to call locksmith tomorrow. This is becoming a much better neighborhood over the yrs., so why ME??? I can't believe what a pain-in-ass this is! Worst part is, what would he have done if I woke up & caught/saw him????
From the back door he came in, he could see my bdroom tv on so knew I was home!!! I sleep w/ tv on all night.
I'm still so upset...cops really don't seem interested. They won't even dust for fingerprints on doorknob... it's A NEW DOOR KNOB!! I called some gas staions around here & no one has videos of cars at gas pumps- only inside store. The guy(s) paid at the pump!
My car is gone tonight (I'm sure they know what my car is) they will think I'm not home & try to get in tonight -- they have all my keys!
Night night, I will sleep light tonight w/ phone by me. Also have neighbors watching when they can. Hope these guys get caught somehow. Crying or Very sad

Thanks Tammy, Yes I believe it is someone who knows me. I think it's one of my son's LOSER friends. I just set up cam corder at back so I can get a look if he stops by this am. He must've came last night aaround 6am or so, so I will stay up a while before turn it on - it only runs for 4- 4 1/2 hrs or so. I'm obsessed with getting this guy.
I cancelled out everything --will get new cards 5 - 15 days. I NEED MILK & BREAD - have no car & too far to walk to bank with out someone watching my house. I know these guys took what they wanted & threw my purse out prolly in Milwaukee River--spare keys are in a secret zippper comp'nt. I sure hope no one ever has to go thru this. I'll stay up as late as I can & turn camcorder on. This guy has balls enough to walk in my house when I'm sleeping, knowing I'm home,... he'll be back. He must know me & my X are not together anymore too. Wish me luck- say a prayer till I get a locksmith in here. Geeze, I sure hope my HO will cover a lot. Will be a good test of how good they are. I NEVER made a claim!
They made 6 transactions... full tank of gas (or so) was about $30.00... X 6 = $180.00. It's a much bigger price on my end. So sad.
Still bothers me...what would he / they have done if I woke up and caught them??? I have phone & pellet gun loaded & pumped up by my bed tonight.

That's terrible Patty. Besides the issue of getting all of your cards, ID's and bank accounts secured it's a bit unsettling to think you may have been singled out. I'm sorry to hear that & a bit worried about your safety. Hope things go better for you from this point.

Oh man! Would be really mad!
I feel angry at someone who does those things. Sometimes those kinds of inhuman beings think of it as a thrilling way of life at our expense. It will be years before you can clean yourself of those identity theft if ever they go for it.

Right now, even our cops are not interested if the damage per incident is assessed to be less than $5,000, they won't lift a finger! Sometimes it amazes me why majority of the police force are actively pursuing traffic violations, fines, and not do the real work of going after real crooks such as these. They are now profit oriented than people oriented.

So much for my rant, is there anything we can do to help?

Joe

Sorry to hear that Patty. That really sucks. Big dogs are a pain in the butt but I'll always have Rotts. Nobody has the balls to come close with these two beasts ready to rip them apart.

Hope things work out well for you.

Thanks so much everyone! I was sure he'd come back last night because my car was gone & him having all my keys....
He didn't come back because him(black guy) & his female friend (white)got arrested last night/early morning for a retail theft in Greenfield (10-15 miles southwest of MKE). They found 6 of my checks on the girl & the Greenfiled police called me early today because my name is on them. I told them what happened & they are now working with MKE police. They are still looking at all their property - said they don't see any of my keys, and if they do show up, they may keep them as evidence for court. That means, I will have to pay $250. for new set & remote --programmed.
Joe, you are right about cops. MKE cop yest was a jerk. Greenfield police were so much nicer, they have a detective working on it. Don't know what's going on..don't know if they confessed but they obviously have something to do with it! I covered the back doorknob with plastic bag in the hopes they wil lift prints. I open & close that door from inside only --it should be clean enough to get prints, but that is still up to MKE cops.
I made a big mess of locks yest. Took locks off other doors to go one ones that they had keys for. All have diff set backs & now all the locks are a mess. I was a basket case LOL I will need a locksmith for sure now.
I was VERY happy this am when I got that call. If my chow chow was still alive, this never woulda happened.
Thank you all for the kind words & understanding.

Patty, I am very sorry about your loss but remember, it could have been much worse.

I am sure you already know this, but a locksmith can re-key all of your locks and provide you with keys.

I strongly recommend that you do not shoot a burglar with a pellet gun! In my opinion, it is a good way to get yourself into big trouble.

Good locks, a yappy dog, and good lights will help. I have seen Lazz’s dogs, and I guarantee no one is going to go in his house without paying a big price. But the truth is that even a small dog can make a burglar think twice. We have a beagle, and he sound mighty ferocious when a stranger comes up. If you don't want a dog, think about an alarm system.

If you insist on a gun, get with a group that can give you the professional advice and training that you will need to use it.

Take care, Ned

Patty,,
I can relate.. The "vandal" use to break in my back door and steal jewelry, odds and ends, and my "unmentionables".. It is a very violated feeling.. I live in a VERY small town and when we moved here I never thought of locking my doors.. Now I have deadbolts on both front door and back.. I even lock up at night.. the back door STAYS locked unless someone is currently using it..
Cops here shrug stuff off too.. they don't dust for prints.. and even though I have a good idea who was doing all.. they don't DO anything unless the person is caught in the act..
Lucky they found the ppl that broke in to your place.. But that is LITTLE relief to what I'm sure you are feeling right now.. Trilly-71-14

Hope all goes well for you..
