Greetings All!
My figs have woken up and so have I! I have currently 3 figs growing in containers and one cutting I'm trying to root (without success I'm afraid). They are Italian Everbearing, Hardy Celeste, and one unknown. The IT seemed to be growing a breba pretty hardily before the cold rainy weather we just had. Now it looks like they are browning before they get to full size. All are putting out leaves much earlier than last year so I am hoping for a decent crop in the fall.
Glad to be back,
Chops |

Hey Chops, glad to see you're back. Where were you BTW? Seems like your figgies took their time waking up! Mine are all leafed out W/ 4 -5 leaves on each branch.
I read somewhere to pinch off branch after it gets 5 leaves but I'll wait for fall & prune all my figgies. Brebas have dropped (or I picked 'em off) & I'm now waiting for the real crop to start. Am propagating some lower branches on some.
Is this a lousy fricken Spring or WHAT?!!! Cold & rain & rain & cold here.
Just this week I cleaned my pond & refilled it & repotted the lillies. Got your pond going yet?
You just reminded me that I am getting 17 fig cuttings from UC sometime between June & Aug...EEEEK..where will I put them?? _________________ Patty

Here's the fig tree that EZ$ gave me. I transferred it to the ground last Winter. I am surprised it did not bear fruit this year. When it was in pot I had lots of fruit. I guess it is just building its energy and will surpise me next year.

Dear fig-fanatical Patty- Did they send you a confirmation letter? I know someone here said they got a letter. I didnt, and im hoping thats not curtains for me. I only asked for 4 or 5 varieties, I forget. I kept my statement of purpose short.

Benny, I think your figs just didn't start yet. When did tree break dormancy? You only have a few leaves on each branch - that I can see. Give it some time. Mine don't have figs yet either, but they will. If you have some lime, give it a good handfull in top of soil.
Garnet, I didn't get a confirmation letter. I think it was Stressbaby that mentioned he did. Hmmmm. Hey Robert, you there? _________________ Patty

Patty:
Yes, it just started to leaf out at the start of Spring and you can see it still growing. Perhaps it is a location problem. It does not get enough sunshine where it is planted right now. Less than 4 hours. I am hoping it will grow over 6 feet before it can taste the sunshine it needs because of the wood fence. When it was planted on a pot I can move it anywhere I want. But then it was a water hog. Sometimes it got too dry and wilt and maybe that's just it- it got stressed and bear fruit instead. |

Benny, it WILL bear fruit this year...it's too early now. It's just not getting enough direct sun. They like at least 6-8 hours.
If you want more fruits..pot it & put it in more sun but not where you had it last yr. _________________ Patty

Patty, my figs trees woke up early this year- in April or even late March. They are well leafed out now and growing vigorously. Sorry I haven't been arouns much this winter, a lot od other projects going on.
I haven't started my pond yet and I'm not sure if I'll be able to get to it this year. I want to build some stairs and a landing off of my deck/ramp into my backyard. That will let me see how much room I'll have left in the yard to put some other things that I've been thinking about: an arbor, stone walkway, grape vines. So then I can see where the pond will go if it goes at all. So many projects, so little time. |

Patty:
I think she is better off on the ground in the long run. That way she is off my hair. I don't worry about watering her or anything. I can ignore her and leave her alone just as I did last year. The fruits can wait. Only 2 1/2 more feet and she will be over the fence and can see sunshine. |

This afternoon I noticed figs starting to sprout at base of leaves. Yeay!
Just those tiny little bumps for now...will be eating figs like popcorn later this year. Amazing what a little warmth & sunshine can do. _________________ Patty

Hi everybody!
I didn't get what you'd call a confirmation letter. I sent a $20 "donation" to cover shipping. They sent it back with a nice personal letter stating that they could not accept donations. They can accept a FedEx prepaid shipping label, FYI.
I also wanted to post this pic showing how well my BT likes CHC. I potted up into this mix just about 8 weeks ago. I thought that this was Millet's standard recipe, tho if you look closely there is some perlite in there (how'd it get in there?) Anyway, you can see how happy this guy is in a CHC-based growing medium.
I'm hoping that the cuttings don't come while I'm on vacation 6/3-6/10. That would be a bummer.

Well hello SB
That's a very healthy looking Fig tree! What are you fert. with.. if any?
You sure that's a BT? The leaves are so long & 'finger-like'.
Maybe you have a neighbor to accept your cuttings while you're gone? Just notify ups or local PO to deliver that pkg to neighbors house so they can get them in water. I kinda doubt we'll get them beginning of June but, we don't know.
Hope you have a great vacation! Where ya goin? (Geeze, I'm nosey LOL) _________________ Patty
