Ahhh Vinny, you are a true figaholic!! Sounds like you have a nice assortment there.
I think Mother's Day is way too late. I'd get them unwrapped now & in more light to break bud. What might happen is the figs won't ripen before winter & you won't get any.
I remember that guy on other forum talking about his 1/4 pounder figs, I don't post there anymore. You should give some of those people the link here!!! In fact, it was on that forum where someone posted to unwrap the figs by March 15.
I also ordered 17 fig cuttings from UCDavis. Where will I put them??!!!
Your fellow figaholic,
Patty

I too want to place an order with UCDavis (thanks patty for directing me here and oh I love your fig tree collection Smile ). This must be a dumb question, but do I choose Summer cuttings? There is a choice of Budwood/scionwood, summer cuttings or budwood.
Thanks Sarah

Hi Sarah, I didn't see where there was a choice of budwood/scions. There were 2 deadlines --one was in Dec for winter cuttings, and other is May 1st for summer cuttings that will be shipped in June. Just print out the order form & follow directions. Pick out the varieties you want & get it mailed. These will be cuttings only. You will have to root them.
Stick the bottom 2-3 inches or so in perlite w/ some peat & water. I like the see thru plastic cups (punch holes in bottom) so I can see the roots growing.
1 1/2 yrs ago, I cut a lower branch off my negronne cuz I didn't like it there, & I stuck it in same pot & it rooted. It's now potted in it's own pot & growing good. Let me know if you want it!
Patty

Thanks Patty!

I ordered Wonderful Pomegranate, Brown Turkey Fig (got celeste coming from paradise nurseries) and Fuyu Persimmon. That is more than enough to start, I just hope I dont kill them off ahgg_fingersx

I am completely shocked that these are free, I mean, nothing is free nowadays!! Shocked

Paradise sells great figs & their pkging is great, but last month they said they are sold out for the season. If that's still true, you may not get your fig till Sept -Oct. Question
I didn't see the pomaganite & persimmons! When they grow maybe we can swap them for some of my other figgies.

I ordered my fig beginning of April. The website said they only had their special Celeste figs left, I called and spoke to someone about this fig before placing an order. A week later I emailed to check when they would be shipping and Sybil sent a very nice reply telling me that they are busy shipping out right now but all figs will be shipped by the end of the month. So Im sure I'll be getting it! Im so excited!!!
I sure hope I will be able to trade with you one day, but that sounds rather advanced! I sure hope the cuttings from UCDavis will do well with me, as I just feel so sad when plants die in my care.

I was just reading at figs4fun.com and they have descriptions of all figs & names for them. Well, someone sent me what they called 'petite negronne' 3 yrs ago. They have a petit negri & a Negronne listed so I'm not sure what I have till I eat one this yr. Funny part is, petit negri has been renamed Ischia Black - one of the cuttings I ordered. And, Negronne is really Violet De Bordeaux, another cutting I ordered. Wonder how many other cuttings I ordered that I already have!!?

I noticed that too. Lots of "other names", WAY worse than tomatoes usually are. When I was reading, it seems there are different other names for other figs too, IE some have 2 or more names, and they dont overlap.

I cant wait till June Smile

Hey Garnet, we might have to wait longer than June. I remember reading they will ship from June to August...with my luck, I'll get mine in August!

The website said June, but the letter I got from them said "this summer," as I recall.

I don't think I got a letter from them Sad (at least I don't remember)...but maybe that's where I read 'June - Aug'. If they go alphabetical, I'm at the end LOL.
