We use the hair from the tails for a number of fly patterns for fly fishing as well. |

I think Mepps pays 50 cents per squirrel tail--send in a hundred and you can buy a nice citrus tree or two!
They are also use in a lot of fly tying patterns--Cabela's sells them in a variety of colors. _________________ Skeet

It could be worse. I took an aquaculture class in college (fish farming). In some Asian cultures that practice fish farming, they build their outhouses over the ponds. The nutrients feed the algae, which feed silver carp, which feed the fish being consumed by humans.

Phillip, actually isn't that pretty much the same as ordinary organic gardening? - Millet |

Yes, but the harvested fruit isn't swimming in sewage before they eat them unless they are using a foliar application. Then again, we did just have lettuce and tomato recall didn't we?

Looks like we are starting to get a few armadillo's in the area, I have seen two dead ones in the road in the last month. If they come my way I'll send them up to you Patty. These things can really damage your yard from their digging. _________________ Wal-Mart a great place to buy cheap plastic crap ! http://walmartwatch.com/ ...

Well, I took the plunge and decided to join California Rare Fruit Growers, Inc. It seems like I'm running into their name everywhere I went, so I thought it couldn't be all that bad. My first issue of their magazine came this evening and my first alarm was to see the mailing address from San Francisco. I thought to myself, "Ohh boy, what kind of left wing group did I join". I started reading the inside. The first article was a letter to the editor canceling their subscription because they had apparently had had a previous story on killing of possums and they were opposed to the hurting nature. "Ohh no, CRFG is full of animal rights activists. I paid for a full year of this".
Then the CRFG was redeemed . . . The next letter was about how to kill squirrels!!! I was on the floor laughing. Any group with enough chutzpah to go ahead and publish an article about killing squirrels after somone canceled their subscription over killing possums earns my subscription (at least for another year).

Philip, I have been a CRFG member for many years. I've subscribed to their magazine all those years. As are all magazines, some issues are excellent, some good, and some fair. All in all I've enjoyed being a member. Maybe Patty should submit an article about her animal experiences. She would make a "killing". - Millet |

LOL Millet.
This month I trapped 8 squirrels, 3 possum & 1 big racoon.
The total count is 11 possum, 12 raccoon & 60 squirrels. I don't even set the trap every day...maybe 3 days a week, but there is always something in there when I do. A few times I forgot to put bait in it & there was still either a possum or squirrel inside. Who woulda thought?? _________________ Patty

One thing I noticed in the CRFG magazine is a lot of recipes. Maybe I can find one and send it in for a squirrel, possum, coon pie.

Karl has a good recipe for cajun squirrel that I'm sure he would share LOL. And don't forget instructions on how to make the ol' coon tail hats
How about posting a ad selling coon & squirrel tail. The response would be too funny.
Granny Clampett would be about the only one to have a possum recipe though. _________________ Patty

Since last post & because of snow during winter, I haven't trapped much. But, since last month I trapped 3 raccoons, about 6 squirrels & i just trapped another possum.
I was gone for 2 days & had the trap set but no bait in it. Came home & found a dead squirrel in it. Died of thirst I guess (sorry, I'm not into suffering). Something tried to pull it out of trap/cage & ate one leg. I think RACCOON did this, so I left squirrel in trap for bait & re set it. Came home this eve (2 days later) & guess what I found in the trap????
Possum #13 Sorry to all animal lovers but this guys' gota go! PETA, you can kiss my ass!
Every time I trap something, there is more fruit & veggies for me in my garden.
I hear that possum is a delicasi in ome parts of the country & world but not HERE! _________________ Patty

Without a doubt it was an opossum that ate the squirrels leg. On my dads farm, I caught them doing that to live caged chickens. Be careful handling opossums because their bite is something that you will not easily forget.
