Here's another pic that shows the calif gold on the left, background far right is Dwarfed Brazilian I got from Joe and the smaller plant on the right front is a double mahoi and the smallest on the right being a sweetheart.

The background are my citrus what was left after the arctic blast but there are many new buds coming up which are undetected at this moment.

And here's my other different variety of bananas I bought from Ebay. Small ones but they will live. At center is a cherimoya . They were all planted to the ground yesterday since it is getting warmer.

Oh, thank you Skeet. The only thing they can do is up. They were subjected to low tempt many times that's why their leaves are brown.
I expect to see green leaves soon when the tempt stays warm.

Here's another angle pic taken on my cherimoya and a banana on the background.
And thanks Patty for your advice to plant the cherimoya on the ground asap.

Patty:
Let's just hope our dreams come true.

Look what one night can do to a banana. The green color is more pronounced! Pic taken in the morning of 3/11/07.

Wow! it's amazing how these bananas amaze me.
I've seen new spears growth in at least 4 small bananas.
And Joe's bananas starting to unfold their leaves.
What sun's heat can do to many plants! I'ts mavelous!

I am thinking about trying another variety of banana ( I have no clue what variety the one I have is-- I got it from the island where I used to work). They make bananas fairly often on the island--only 10 miles south of here-- but here, I have only gotten them to produce a couple times in the past 20 yrs. The bananas are short but maybe slightly larger diameter than store bought-- the mature trees are 8 to 10 ft tall.

Anyway, I am interested in recomendations for a known variety from you guys that know bananas.

Skeet:
I studied this plant so much before I ventured to buy them on Ebay. So I think I can fairly tell you what to expect and what are the maintenance to make you a success fruiting your banana. But then of course Joe Real is the Master.
Here's some bananas and their characteristics:
Banana Zone Height Fruit / Comments
Basjoo 3-7 12-18 Cold hardy enough to grow in all 50 states (inedible)
Dwarf Cavendish 8-10 8-10 Great appeal, popular, very good fruit
Dwarf Orinoco 7b 6-8 Heavy bearer, Good eating quality
Dwarf Red 8-9 6-8 Compact and colorful. Great tasting fruit
High Color Mini 8-9 2-3 Very small. Highly colored leaves.
Ice Cream 8-10 15 Many rate this as best tasting (vanilla)
Manzano or Apple 9-10 14-16 Considered one of best tasting (Apple banana)

I would start with dwarf orinoco. It is cold hardy easy to fruit, short enough to dig and hide in your garage during winter and good eating fuit.
Remember what I am telling you is just what I read and not actual experience.
As for me I like the dwarf kind so I can move them around during winter time and if I do what I have in mind, I will build me a sort of greenhouse 12 feet in height and 12 x 20 dimention.
I am still accumulating the dwarf varieties at this time.

Patty:
I am glad I'm some help to you. But right now, I am growing bananas as if I can taste it.
Imagine my wife asked me and wanted the flower of my california gold so she can cook it! She asked me this afternoon while working in the yard with my kids.
I almost got me a heart attack.
You can ask Joe that banana flowers is a great ingredients in our cooking.
Yes, Patty I insist that you buy more bananas to plant.
Buy at Ebay for only $5.99 plus shipping $6.00 and the next banana will cost $5.99 and only $0.50 for shipping.
And you can not buy happiness.
I am so happy right now Very Happy , I fertilize my bananas because I don't know if my eyes are deceiving me but those spears grew more than an inch for a 12 hour period.
