Could it be the one I mentioned from Excalibur Fruit tree nursery?

Hi G. No it is not the same. The ones from FL are actually a sour mandarin, actually may be a hybrid of Rangpur.

Back from the Corvette mountain weekend. The red Eureka mutation sported from Paramount growers's tree that is shown in the CRFG magazine is pure red (very red) same red as above. The picture also shows the same type of nipple. - Millet

Whether this is the fruit Laaz is looking for or not, it is a very red lemon. Like familiar lemons it is oblong in shape, with a nipple at the end, but it's skin has the coarse texture more typical of oranges. At one time Paramount Citrus Growers had seven acres of the trees in Ventura County, California but, David Krause the company's president, who didn't see much potential in red lemons pulled the trees out. Only one young tree remains of the red variety, named Golden Eureka, amid the 550 acre grove of normal lemons in Somis, California. - Millet

Seems these brightly colored fruit producing citrus trees would be popular amongst many members of the forum. Among other citrus oddities. Are there traders/disseminators of Golden Eureka?

I received mine yesterday. There is a tag on it saying Limone Rosso and showing a typical picture of a Limon rosso, not at all an Eureka! Sad

Thanks Sylvain,

In case of a surprise like this I bought a small one. They told me it is only 10cm. and 12euro.
I really prefer a bright red Eureka but a limon rosso will be interesting too.

Does Eureka come true from seed?

It is the same picture. I think it is the way the picture is taken that makes it resemble an Eureka, taken from the side we would see a Limon rosso.
We are not the firsts to wander about this picture!...
So we are still waiting for some one of us to find the true red Eureka...

If you want a true red Eureka contact Mr. David Krause President CEO of Paramount Citrus Growers, in Ventura, California. Paramount Citrus is a HUGE operation. I doubt that Mr. Krause would ever give, or even sell, one of his red Eureka lemons. The best chance would be to walk into his field and pick one, and hope you will not be arrested. - Millet

Sylvain,
I played around with the original picture and the floratoscana one.
Just matched them in width, and adjusted the brightness and contrast of floratoscana picture. No change in colour, just the amount of light.
I think they are clearly the same variety, but one is from underneath.

The list of the holdings of the SRA - INRA CIRAD citrus station in Corsica has two entries on Citrus x limonia 'Rangpur lime'
It is said to exist in many closely related cultivars. INRA has a 'Rangpur jaune', Yellow rangpur

and they have a 'Rangpur rouge', Red rangpur

The information for both says:
Elle a été prospectée par Frères Reasoner en 1890. Lieu de prospection : Rangpur Bangladesh. Remarques : Elle a été introduite en Floride par les frères Reasoner, pépiniéristes à Oneco, qui avait obtenus des graines du nord-ouest de l'Inde.

The original plant was found by Reasoner brothers in 1890 from Rangpur, Bangladesh, and they introduced it to Oneco, Florida from seeds obtained in north east India.

The shape of the fruit looks much like the first picture here. The colours in these pictures are what they are, quite manipulated I am sure, but a typical Rangpur lime in a fully grown tree is bright red and much the shape of the lime in question. The rind is not strongly furrowed or ribbed.
From the Citrus Industry: "Fruit small to medium in size, variable in form but mainly depressed globose to round or broadly obovate; sometimes with furrowed collar or low neck; often with short nipple partially or entirely surrounded by a shallow furrow. Rind moderately loose with surface minutely pitted and smooth to slightly rough."

The full size INRA pictures can be downloaded from my website: http://users.kymp.net/citruspages/limes.html#rangpur
