My location is extreme south Louisiana. The temperature dropped down to around 25F last night for only a short time. This is the lowest temperature so far this winter. |

The next big blast of cold air will be steered more east and the worst of it will probably miss the gulf coast, Texas, and Florida. New England and the midwest will be blasted very hard though. This air mass will be coldest so far this winter. It is going to be really really cold in Chicago next weekend. |

Went to 19F last night. My trees with wraps and lights went down to 28F. My pineapple stayed at 48F.
Anybody else notice that there seems to be more blooms where the Christmas tree lights were during the winter?

Looks like the next significant cold wave could come between Jan 30 and FEB 2. Below average temperatures are expected all though next week and probably until at least Feb 2. When will this cold trend end? There has been a trough across the east for most of the time since late November which is very very unusual in a La Nina winter. I hate to think what this winter would be like without La Nina.
Could this weather pattern be a sign of an ice age coming? I do not think so but this weather pattern is unlike anything I have seen in my lifetime. It has been cold everywhere with no significant warm up all winter long especially north. We had some significant cold spells in the 1980s but was always followed by a warm trend. If this weather pattern keeps up this may be first year in my lifetime we do not have a summer. |

I can not remember a Jan that I didn't wear shorts at least for a few days.
The cumulative damage on my citrus trees is starting to show.

It looks like Texas is going to get some arctic air next week. Dallas will be cold with highs in the 30s and lows in the teens. Houston will not likely be as cold though with highs in the 40s and lows in the 20s. A low in Colorado on Tuesday will drag down the cold air into western Texas. Get ready, next week is going to be cold but hopefully not too cold. -10 C 850MB temperatures forecast in north Texas on Tuesday/Wednesday next week. |

Is everyone ready for this cold spell? North Texas is going to be very very cold but not as cold but still cold in Houston. It looks like those of you in Florida are going to escape this blast! Here the temperatures will be warmer but still chilly. Looks like highs in the 40s and lows 25 to 30. That is cold! |

Tonight, at my farm in Colorado, it is -20F (-29C). This storm is moving south directly toward NM and TX. In the greenhouse, my two primary heaters, a 250,000 and a 200,000 BTU, will run much of the night, and most of tomorrow. The greenhouse also has two 100,000 BTU infra-red heaters that normally are used only in emergences, plus a 250 gallon heated water vat, (a used stainless steel dye vat) that is used primarily as a warm table for rooting, bottom heat for seed germination, and a warm table for delicate tropicals. This is realy great weather if your the propane salesman. - Millet (721-) |

Here in South GA, I think we will miss this one. Y'all watch out for the ice.

You will miss the worst of this one, but there is another arctic assult coming next week! This is the winter without any breaks from cold. It is just one arctic front after another since early December! La Nina is not helping much this year! This winter reminds me a lot of the winter of 1987/1988. Arctic fronts plunging south nearly every week but nothing too extreme, but this year could be different. The winter of 1957/1958 is also somewhat similar. |

Another one coming. Ye gads! My citrus will be fine I can protect them. My apple, peach and cherry trees are fine unless we go warm to cold freezing the blooms.
By the way, Radio Shack has a good remote-wireless thermometer I hang on my wrapped citrus to monitor the temp. Works well. |

I am worried about the cold spell coming next week. The GFS shows a very cold air mass very far south on next Wednesday! -10C 850 MB temperatures extend way down. This may be coldest air mass in years! |
