Yup, had a low if 31 per my Davis station last night. But, good news - the lows will be in the low 40's for the rest of the week. We are now seeing a more standard winter weather pattern here on the west coast, with winter storms working their way down the coast, instead of the influence from that big arctic high pressure zone pushing down from the arctic. Boy, folks in the upper midwest were wickedly cold these last few days. It was 17 in Denver as a high yesterday, per my middle daughter. But, tons of snow in the mountains for her!

The temperature here will plunge to low of around 40 F tonight and the wind chill will be in the low 30s F early Saturday Morning! The high Saturday is only 67F. The coldest air since at least February.

Boy, that's breathtakingly cold, Millet. I'll never forget when I went out on a ski trip to Aspen while in college. Went with our college ski club. We got into Aspen around 2:00 pm. It was beautifully sunny, I was so excited to get out of the bus. President Ford was there, too, on a ski vacation, so we were hoping to be able to snap a few memorable pics. I jumped out of the bus and nearly lost my breath. It was 3 degrees. I remember every day skiing I wore every single layer of clothing I brought. I felt like the little kid bundled up by a parent, ending up feeling stiff as a board! Egad that was cold.

I grew up in upstate New York. Winter temps would often drop to -20 F with a wind chill much lower. I don't miss that at all.

I wouldn't miss that either... Laughing I didn't know NY can get that cold!!! We generally might get temps as low as that. However, such weather conditions don't last long and are considered an emergency.

We always had some "Arctic Express" that would come through N. Indiana every February that would push temps to the low teens or twenties. I remember trying to get to the barn to make sure the horse water buckets (these were heated buckets, mind you) didn't freeze over. During one of these Arctic Expresses, by the time I came back up from the barn, which was about 100 feet from the house, I had frostbite on the edges of my ears because I forgot to put my hat on. That, plus getting system snow and lake effect snow could drop 6 feet of snow in a matter of hours, not unlike upstate New York (although nothing rivals upstate New York's system + lake effect snows!) Glad I am back in sunny S. California. 10 years of that weather was enough for this little California girl!!

Come on!! I think Patty's over exaggerating again... Trilly-77-24

@Laaz - If I wasn't already frozen, I definitely froze when I saw those record lows. Geee -38 F, I thought it was reserved for Russia. Laughing

Yea. I used to complain to my parents. My mother grew up in Edmonton, Alberta. She would just laugh at me. She said I didn't know the meaning of cold. She was right.
