The Jefferson County, Fl, courthouse (about 12 miles south of the Georgia line on US Route 19) has an orange tree growing just southeast of the building. Driving by the other day, I noticed some of the fruit was already getting some color, so I stopped and grabbed one, and it was great. Does anyone have experience with this tree, know what it is, or know whether it typically starts maturing fruit this early?

I am thinking it might be a hamlin, given the early maturity, juicy nature of the fruit, light-colored pulp and juice, and thin but fairly adherent peel. There were three seeds in the fruit I tried.

Additionally NO citrus parts can be moved in Florida to include seeds, scions, twigs, etc....

Quarantine coupled with erradication could work and probably was working in Florida till a judge ruled it unconstitutional.

Now we will never know!

Let's take the "entertainment factor" a bit further... Laughing

One is not allowed to take a Florida grown fruit outside Florida. But if one eats such a fruit while inside Florida and then moves outside Florida, one actually takes that fruit, including viruses, outside Florida! Would that be allowed? Rolling Eyes
