This theater is about 20 minutes from my farm. My daughter in law works at Children's hospital where some of the injured were taken. The move theater is a separate free standing building but it is located in a shopping mall complex. This complex has had other shootings in the past. The police have shut down the entire complex until the investigation is completed. Aurora, the city, where the shooting took place, is an eastern suburb of Denver, Colorado. The theater is located about 1 mile from Buckley Air Force base, which is a top secret military base, where the US has many radar installations that monitor much of the world for missile and airplane attacks and other defense activities. - Millet |

The perpetrator has been captured. As it turns out he lives on the 3rd floor of a large apartment building. Believing the chances of being captured would be rather high, he apparently has booby-trapped his apartment, so that when the authorities entered his room, the building would be exploded, thereby also killing all the other residents of the structure. The police broke through a 3rd story window, and have sent in cameras to evaluate the apartment before the bomb squat enters. - Millet |

I can't believe how EVIL people can be to shoot innocent people like this and especially little girls!!!!! It is a travesty!
My brother-in-law is in Army Intelligence and will head to this Air Force Base when he returns from Afghanistan in October. I hope he gets a follow-on assignment in CO so that I can visit them often.

Getting the death penalty in Colorado insures a long life. Presently Colorado has 4 people on death row. The last person executed was Gary Davis, who killed the wife of a good friend and neighbor of mine, my wife sat in on his trial, and that was in the 80's. - Millet |

Regarding the public execution, I believe this quote fits in well. I mourn the loss of dozens of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy... I'm sure that public execution wouldn't alleviate any of the pain of victim's' families. Let the God judge him, everything else would be just way too mild. |

No, but a public execution might make others with this demented idea to think twice. _________________ Wal-Mart a great place to buy cheap plastic crap ! http://walmartwatch.com/ ...

It definitely makes sense. Although a public execution would be just a moment of suffering opposed to life imprisonment, which might eventually make the villain regret his crimes. On the other hand, public execution sends strong message to everyone considering anything alike. |

In Colorado it will be at least one year before the trial will even begin. - Millet |

This is not about the selfish act of celebrating but is about justice. It is the proper thing to do. There is not a reason to prolong the life of someone who has taken the life of another without any justifying reason. If you take a life without any justification at all you should receive swift justice.

The pain may not ever go away but it does bring closure to many families of victims as opposed to waking up every day knowing that the murderer of their family is alive, eating three times a day, receiving better medical care than they can afford for their family, and being taken care of by tax dollars.
The public execution is a display of justice. When it is tucked away from public eyes and appears in a last minute edition on page seven it does not have the deterrence it should. Speaking of deterrence, lethal injection doesn't cut it. Hanging or firing squad is sufficient.
Have no doubt God will judge him that is for sure. Our job is just to arrange God's trial date for the murderer.

I don't really care if the murderer shows remorse. That is not the objective.
In order for the public execution to be effective it must be unpleasant. If you have ever seen a hanging where the neck does not break it is most unpleasant and would be a deterrent to most sane people ESPECIALLY if the punishment was swift.
On a related thought. All of our "punishments" are way too mild to be a deterrent and that is why we have such a high recidivism rate. The last thing a criminal should think when he leaves jail and is that wasn't too bad. It should be such a horrible part of his life that if he thinks of committing ANY crime it should flood his thoughts and make him stop. That basically means the conditions should be unbearable, distasteful, painful, humiliating and basically inhumane.
Lest you think I'm not qualified to make these statements, I work in the criminal justice system. I have worked for three and a half years in a correctional facilty and now in the law enforcement side for over twenty years. I have spoken with victims and families of violent crimes. I think I know how they feel. I have also spoken with criminals post sentencing and they have expressed their thoughts to me. I have had my immediate family members violate the law and receive time in jail. If the conditions were different they might not continue to repeat their mistakes. I think I've seen both sides. I think I'm qualified. _________________ Charles in Pensacola
