Lazz, When I click on some of the old Pacific Tree Farm web sites, I get other nursery in the association. I read the article of their closing in the "Fruit Gardener" magizine which is published by the CRFG (California Rare Fruit Growers). They sold citrus,, fruit and nut trees and palms. I will call them on Monday and inquire as to what varieties of citrus they have left. - Millet

I am also interested in what they have, specifically mellogold or oroblanco. Can't seem to find a way to get to an order page. Interestingly, I lived in Chula Vista when I was a kid, right across from the golf course.

By the way, glad to see this alternative forum to GW. It was getting entirely too political and cliqueish there. I come dangerously close to telling people to go screw themselves. Wink

Well, the lack of overwhelmingly obnoxious ads is certainly refreshing.

So, I take it you can delete the "unwelcome" people if they show up (LOL) I swear someone at GW was deleting my posts on a regular basis.

We need another Greenhouse forum too. That one was getting quite unfriendly as well!

It is nice to have a citrus forum that you dont have to worry about being sent to Disneyland! I ws very skittish about posting on GW after Spike sent me to Disneyland several years ago. Everything I posted, I felt like was being monitered by the KGB! Thanks Lazz for creating this one.

Glad to have invited to this forum! Thanks!
The expo should be great, this will be my first one. Looking forward to meeting the fine folks that I've chatted with over the net, picking up some growing tips, and of course, adding to my citrus collection!
Regards to all............Scott

I just placed an order for a 5 Gal. OroBlanco from them. $65 delivered here to the middle of nowhere. Not too bad if it's a good-sized plant. Will update with pix when received.

BTW, they had no variegated citrus. Crying or Very sad

Laaz,

I'm still not certain it is in fact a Silverhill, still trying to find a way to be sure.

The fruit it bore this year was prodigous. I have already given away more than 300 of them (they sell them locally @ 3/$1) and still have about a couple hundred left. The fruit ranges from small to almost orange-sized and they all have a fairly thin skin. Very easy to peel and incredibly juicy and sweet. In fact, just picking them tended to tear a hole in the skin where the stem was. Does that sound like a silverhill to you guys?

After Katrina, I was amazed to have lost only a few dozen tiny fruits, but several branches broke and the whole tree looks kind of pitiful. The branches were so heavy with fruit they are bent over touching the ground. I will take some close-up pix this weekend and will be very thankful for advice on which way to go.

I am thinking of pruning somewhat agressively and then rooting those cuttings for those who have expressed interest as well as to multiply my own plantings.

As soon as I get a chance to do it, and the rooted cuttings seem stable, I will make the offer to share. Of course offers of variegated citrus trees will gain high priority status! Very Happy

(P.S. I already have several var. pink lemon trees)

Hi Casa this is the best photo I can find of the Silverhill. Dr. Manners or Stan may be able to help you verify it.

I receintely receive some budwood from a Silverhill Satsuma, I was thrilled to get it. Laaz is correct about Bonnie Childers, he is VERY knowledgeable concerning most all varieties of satsuma. Casa, glad you got your Oro, did you telephone Pacific Tree? - Millet
