Is there any advantage or disadvantage to either cut? I've used the inverted t and it worked for me. It seems to me the inverted would be easier to slide the bud into. Any thoughts? |

The common T-Bud is normally used, but if your area has heavy rainfall during the grafting season, and with rootstocks that bleed heavily, an inverted T bud is used to prevent water or sap from collecting in the graft. - Millet (576-) |

Great, I will give the normal T a try next time. By the way Millet, is there any danger in leaving the bud exposed when wrapping a new t-bud? |

I leave them exposed. I wrap around the tip of the bud. Many others wrap them with a single layer. - Millet 570-) |

I always use the inverted t & wrap the bud. If you're using parafilm the bud will break right through with no problem. _________________ Wal-Mart a great place to buy cheap plastic crap ! http://walmartwatch.com/ ...

I uncovered a bud too soon and I'm afraid it's going to dry out. Can I rewrap? |

Mark;
Try to make some time to get by the nursery here on a weekend if you like, I have about 5000 rootstocks left to bud here and can use some help, I'll show you techniques for some help. |

It wouldn't hurt. Did you wait at least 3 weeks? |

I find pushing down the bud easier than pushing it up. Upright or inverted is equally effective. I always cover the entire bud with vinyl budding tape and cut the tape after 3 weeks. I didn't have much luck using only parafilm and think it is doesn't get tight enough. |

I find the inverted T works best for me because it is easier to cut the bud off of the budstick from top to bottom than from bottom to top. This makes the top end best for inserting into the rootstock.
I agree with Mr. Texas, vinyl tape works best here where the parafilm often does not hold up long enough for the bud to take completely. The vinyl can also be pulled much tighter than parafilm, without breaking, ensuring better contact between the scion and bud. |

Parafilm M, primairly used to cover beakers to prevent contamination. This parafilm has no UV resistance and deterioates very quickly in sunlight.
Parafilm Nursery Grafting Tape has UV resistance and is fairly strong, can be successfully used for budding and grafting. Fairly inexpensive.
Buddy tape, excellent for budding and grafting has UV resistance. This tape is perforated so that one section can be pulled off the roll easily. There are about 600 pieces on each roll. The price from A M Leonard is about $20.00 plus shipping.
My preferance for t-budding is the 2mil vinyl chip budding tape. It is strong enough for successfull t-budding. |

I think I was using tape that wasn't UV resistant, even though it was sold as budding tape. Still, I prefer the vinyl tape for its strength and durability. |

I think I've been using the AM Leonard tape. |
