I think I have a flag leaf coming out from Joe Real's dwarf Brazilian finally.
But Winter is coming so I may have a problem with it.

Oooh Benny, I know this is a nightmare for a flag leaf in end of summer. I wish you luck. I know you've been waiting a long time for this.
My nannas have been doing good this yr untill now. I look down the last leaf & don't see another growing out as usuall. Seems it just stopped growing. My Dbl Mahoi is doing fine & new leafs growing, but I.C. just won't put out a new leaf lately. I wonder why?
Hoping you get good nannas. _________________ Patty

Nanna is 7 ft or more to top leaf. It has a 18 " pup & I chopped off & potted a 4 ft pup. The pups were growing fast & I think they took too much energy from mother. Hoping it will put out couple more leaves now before I dig it up & bring it in.
How are yours doing this year? _________________ Patty

Ok Patty you have a ways to go. The smallest I have had to fruit had 10 Ft of clear trunk.
Benny I though yours were in container that you could bring in and protect ? _________________ Wal-Mart a great place to buy cheap plastic crap ! http://walmartwatch.com/ ...

Patty and Laaz:Thanks for your replies. Yes, I waited a long time for it to flagged leaf so I am very happy. You can be sure I will protect it from the best of my ability.
It is planted on ground under my pergola plat so I can protect it somewhat. I plan to put up glass ( I can buy the bathroom sliding glass doors at the Recyclable place for very cheap price) on top of the pergola. And I will enclosed the sides with clear plastics. Or more glass perhaps. If that is not enough I may add heat to the place. I may run a gas pipe as I am planning to buy some ventless heater on EBay soon. It is not cold yet so right now I am busy enclosing my patio with glass enclosures. I have now transplanted a lot of banana pups at my pergola plat and they are now staying comfortably at my enclosed patio.
I have many bananas that are planted in large pots but also have many planted on the ground. They are all scattered all over my yard. Even planted under some large trees and grass. |

Patty:
Some bananas are weird.
Like my California Gold, when I transplanted it to the ground. I did not see a new leaf for over 8 months almost all this summer but when it started, it grew now normally.
Also my other California Gold, I waited almost 2 years before it sent out 2 pups one after the other.
And now my viente Cohol that I bought 4months ago, sent out about one inch new leaf right away when I transferred it to a pot and now it stopped growing completely.
But my other 98% bananas I have no problem. So I can't complain. |

A late flag leaf gives me grief when I see them. It almost spells out nil chance of decent bananas over here on that stem. At least in most parts of Cali with some effort you can protect it enough over the winter and have it resume growth the next spring. Good luck Benny! Also nice work on your projects. A tool shed and maybe a couple of plants?? I think it's more like another plant space with a small area for tools just kidding! |

Thank you Laaz and Eyeckr for your compliments.
Ha-ha.... it may be far from the truth what you said Eyeckr. When my wife told me I can sleep with my bananas I may put a TV cable and computer hookup in the tool shed. I am planning to add a computer table there so I have a little privacy. |

I have a long way to go - for sure. The trunk part measures just over 4 1/2 ft
It grew so well last summer & then I forced it into dormancy for winter & laid it on sunroom floor covered. I potted it about March-April & it woke up & put out a huge leaf that later fell down. When I planted it inground, I noticed the roots were wet & rotting, so I cut the rotted part off --it had no leaves. It took awhile to get healthy & now has only 4 leaves. It's healthy, but still no sign of a new leaf. This winter I'll pot it so it won't have such a bad start next spring.
I agree that you're not building a tool shed LOL. It will be "Benny's Plant Room - with a space for tools".
Don't forget to put a bed or small sofa in there
Nice job! _________________ Patty

Ho-ho!!
That's not a bad idea Patty.
I did not think of that!
So the only thing missing is a heater?
Thanks a lot guys for the suggestion. |
