Mid to low twenties predicted for the next three nights in my area.
Even with the frost cloth I lost the new growth, but I'll wrap them anyway so as to limit any damage to the mature growth.
Crazy winter this year.

I agree that the winter weather in the southeast is getting very old. Its hard to even go outside and get things done that you need done. I hate cold weather. |

Sorry about the burned new growth, Alan.
I like the fact that it is freezing lots of little Psyllids. _________________ Peace, Love, and Citrus |

Hadn't thought of it that way. There is that.
But you do have to admit that it's a cold comfort!

We had 2 nights in the low 20s then 60s for a couple days --now 20s again for tonight--upper 20s tomorrow night. I uncovered Sunday then re-covered today. No visible damage so far except for a few broken limbs from the wrapping _________________ Skeet

26 here this morning. It is surprising to see Gainesville colder than here.

27 at my house in Gainesville last night. Alan lives west of here and he gets it much colder than I do. |

I think tonight may really burn my trees. I have had them planted in ground since 2003 with no problem, but my Meyer is already starting to show damage. Leaves are drooping and new growth is dead. We are still supposed to drop another 6-7 degrees by morning. I have all of my tropicals protected pretty well, but they may still have tough time tonight. When it's this cold out the warmest I am able to keep my little greenhouse is about 36. Which may take out my cacao trees, and damage a few others that are slightly more hardy. I am more concerned that I will lose all of my mango and lychee flower spikes. Good luck to everyone else out there. At least it looks like a warm up is on the way.
Is it worth trying to spray the trees with water to get them through the night? |

And this morning came in at a chilly twenty one degrees. Better than the eighteen that had been predicted when I went to bed last night, but probably still going to take some damage. We're supposed to go to the midtwenties tonight so I won't unwrap the trees before tomorrow.
I'm going to have to rethink the way I do in ground plantings it seems.

Looks like my all of my citrus took a pretty hard hit last night. I think all of the trees will survive, but all of the upper leaves seem to be toast. The lower leaves that were protected by the canopy seem like they will be fine. A few of the smaller trees may lose all of there leaves. I protected everyting to about a foot above the graft unions just in case, but most of the trees are too large for covering the canopys. Even my satsuma seems to have a good bit of damage which kind of surprised me. |

We got down to 30 last night, but the weather channel was only predicting 37! Good thing they were not off that much the night before! _________________ Skeet

Thankfully, our weather stations have missed all predictions of mid twenties. The lowest so far this year was 30 degrees. Darn, Florida King peach flowered a couple of weeks back so I am hoping it doesnt get below 28 degrees, but its a long ways to spring.
