What do you do with the mixture of water, epsom salt and calcium nitrate once you remove the CHC from the mixture?
Do you throw it away or can you use it as part of the fertilizer regimen? |

Hi Benny, I use it to fertilize the plants. I might add more water & citrus fert to water everything. Just dont't throw it away.
BTW, last year you tried some citrus in CHC & I'm wondering how it's going. Are they growing better than others? Same? _________________ Patty

Patty:
Hi. Thanks. I sure hate to throw it away and thanks for the info.
I don't have a definite positive outcome with its use. I had a conflicting results. Some had thrived better, and some were the same.
I think the reason was I did not follow Millet's menu the correct preparation.
This time I did. With a twist. I added some turface and steer manure and some compost.
One of the reasons why I bought a bunch this time is because I saw a guy at the banana forum the difference of his bananas planted on CHC. It was amazing how the roots occupy the container so fast. I got me dwarf bananas and planted them in half wine barrel. Hopefully I will have fruit this time. One thing I would like to get is dwarf ladyfinger. But there was nowhere to be found.
And I am transferring some of my citrus to this mixture and bigger pots. |

Benny, if you are not impatient, I have a dwarf lady finger. Just wait for its pups. It is slowly recovering from the arctic bast, so chances are really good that it will fruit in containers too, without much protection. |

Besides, I have successfully fruited California Gold in container, the 25 gallon container. So will try others now that my California gold have found a place in the yard. That is why I have Mauritius and Dwarf Lady Finger. Perhaps by end of summer I will have some pups. |

And the Enano Gigante, it has two tiny pups! Just waiting for it to grow bigger, separate them, and when I find excuse to go fishing with you, I will bring one pup for you. It is a good candidate for container growing. |

Oh, wow! That will be a dream come true.
That's a deal.
I will get the boat ready now. (LOL)
Oh, I know, it's going to part so hard for someting dear to your heart.
But I can wait. So they say 'Till the end of time" It makes me whisper and hum that song. You just made me so happy.
Meantime back to work at my backyard. I am transplanting more citrus to the ground and to bigger pots not counting the bananas. |

PS:
Joe:
I transplanted the fruiting California gold into a half whiskey barrel. I planted it too deep and I was afraid that the roots might rut.
I think it is happeir now that her roots can breath and can take the sun more freey now.
And thanks for your outstanding advice to be patient with her. Although it has minimal leaves left, the fruits are getting bigger and greener. And her pup I think will outgrow the rest the way it is growing. But how come it is only one. (But I am not complaining, I'm just wondering).
Your Sweetheart although it is only a pup gave birth already with one and steadily growing now. |

Patty just holler if you want one! But you have to make us promise!
Like I promised Gina, she just got her California Gold Pup for free, but it was a promised Birthday Gift to her, and told her to wait til the pups are ready for shipment. |

It is the best b-day present this yr!!!
I have it potted in the largest pot I have.. If big enough next yr I will plant it in ground.. I'm hoping that if I keep it growing during the winter I might get fruit next yr!! There is a pic of it on my new pics thread..
link The cal gold is in the last pic..
It still looks like that.. But I'm sure as the weather warms up more it will start growing like mad..
That is one of those self watering pots.. but I water and then dump out excess water after about an hr.. I have mosquitoes bad enough with out giving them another place to reproduce..
Maybe you will get one for your B-day Laaz??

LOL I got tired of competing on eBay auctions, etc. and picked one up in person from Jeff Earl last week. I'd like to expand my plantings of them for a while so I probably won't promise any pups for a while. _________________ Harvey |

Joe, my B'day was in Jan & I got a few nice cards but a California Gold pup would be a real treat! I will keep any promises you send my way.
Am getting ready to bottle up my elderberry (with a little wild grape juice) & may send you a bottle when I do. How will anyone know what it is? I am hearing too many good things about CA. Gold that I may be a 'nanna addict now!
BTW, you were going to send me some avo. cuttings to graft but I guess we both forgot or were too busy LOL _________________ Patty

Patty thanks for reminding me!
just this morning, I had one of those senior moments. I loaded up the coffee maker and forgot to close the coffee with filters on them. It flooded hot water in the office!
Anyway, send me PM about your snail mail addy and will send the avo budwoods your way. I already sent Harvey his avo budwood last Monday and I know I was still forgetting something, and it was your avo budwoods!
