So I'm driving down my street & look over at my neighbors house. He has a bunch of citrus trees I gave him a couple years ago. They are seedling I had no place for in my yard. So anyway, I look over & notice one has a fruit at the top. It looks yellow, so I figure the fruit was rotten & the tree would drop it. My neighbor comes over last night to have a beer & we were bs'ing & I remember I saw the fruit & ask him about it. He says he doesn't know what I'm talking about. So, we walk over to his house & sure enough there's a fruit at the top of his tree. Now get this, the fruit is variegated. I start looking & the entire tree has variegated bud sports. Shocked I thought it was a grapefruit when I gave it to him, but it may be a sour orange. I'll get some photos this weekend.

Is that the neighbor from across the street (target practicing games with your thomasvilles)? Laughing Ask him for some budwood, next time two of you have a beer together.

Seed from variegated fruit, do not produce variegated plants. Most will be albino & a few will be regular green plants.

My wife reminded me, I wasn't growing any sour orange seedlings back then. I think this is actually a Yuzu seedling. Shocked

The leaves don't look to be variegated. - Millet

No, not all of them. Look at the photos of the leaves. There are many variegated bud sports all over the tree.

Yes, I seen that, what I was wondering, is why a non-variegated branch produced such a stunning variegated fruit. - Millet

That I can't explain. This is the first and only fruit. Next year should be very interesting.

Yes, it IS a YUZU and the developing variegation looks COOL !!!

There are some variegation that only shows up on fruits even, but I think here it is just that the variegation just started and will develop more and more.

What again makes the question what actuelly a variegation IS and how it gets to work ...

Shouldn't yuzu have much larger spines?
What do the leaves smell/taste like?
