The average over night low temperatures for Bennett, Colorado during the month of January is 15.2F (-9.3C). I keep the night time temperature inside my greenhouse between 50 - 54F. - Millet (372 ABO-) |

Hopefully this will be the last arctic cold front this winter which has been very mild over most of the southeast USA, although some parts of the Florida panhandle are experiencing the lowest temperatures so far this winter.
So much for all those predictions of another cold winter this year!
It is a different story in much of Europe though with some areas reporting the lowest temperatures in many years.
I was preparing for a very cold winter but the coldest arctic air has been bottled up in Siberia and Alaska. This is a big relief for citrus growers who have been busy covering and heating the previous two winters.
Hurricane season is approaching and down here that is big time worry. Hopefully no catastrophic hurricanes this year! |

29 last night. Below 32 for about five hours. I watered heavily yesterday. Hopfully it will help save the flower buds. _________________ Charles in Pensacola

It went to twenty eight Saturday night and twenty one last night.
I don't have any inground citrus left so at least that wasn't zapped. |

The second night did not freeze so I'm thankful for that. I'll guess I'll know in a few days if the citrus bloom buds were harmed. My blueberry buds and blooms still look ok. I lost all new growth on my bananas and that was a shame as I had at least one bloom setting fruit. _________________ Charles in Pensacola

My figs looked good as well as the Citrus blooms. Blueberries looked OK too. Big looser was the banana leaves. All were lost. _________________ Charles in Pensacola
