This cold is not ending soon. It will go on all week - lot of schools were closed today (wimps!). Wind chills are -35F in some areas.
If anyone needs help in posting this weather banner to your signature, just let me know.

Yes-- Satsuma also had a commercial fig orchard at one time. Figs do well down here. I am at 30.3 N 87.1 W -- I was just looking at my house on Google earth-- my house is one of the few without a blue roof--that was the color of the tarps that were used after the hurricane as a temporary fix for damaged roofs. I was lucky!

I have a Magnolia Grandiflora --2 in fact one in front and one in back-- I love the smell! They were one of the few trees that I never saw blown down from the hurricane--quite surprising due to their thick foilage and wide shape-- you would have thought they would blow over for sure-- but they did not even loose many leaves.

Skeeter, I was just enjoying nice look of blue roofs on a white sand of Santa Clara Island. Now I know the truth Shocked
Nice to hear that your roof is 'windproof', and also magnolia.
I'm expecting some nasty wind this summer, and hail...

Joining in on the fun (and trying out this weather signature thingy)

Ivica,

Dobar dan! Do you live in Sisak year round? I was just in Punat and Unije, CR this summer. I hope to go back maybe next year. I met someone from Sisak while over there.

Yea Ivica, anyone who is looking at our area on Google Earth and doesn't know it would think blue is a popular color for roofs in our area. I am not sure exactly when the picture was taken-- probably in the spring of 2005-- the hurricane hit in the middle of Sept. 2004 I know of several houses that had already gotten new roofs by the time this Google earth picture was taken.

I put a metal roof on my house myself in 2004-- just in time!

Hello Chops,
Unije, ah... that is on my plan list for a very long time...
I prefer islands but now, having a small childrens, I hesitate to travel anywhere. Yes, Sisak is the place where I was born and where I live. If you arrive at the Pleso airport ... I'm ~40 km SE away... If you want I can find person you met ...
Skeeter,
so, that was Ivan, cat 4 beast, eh.
Ivan and Ivica are similar names, people here uses Ivo for both, hmm... what a coincidence...
No wonder why Ivan missed your roof, I'm having problems too Laughing
30.3 87.1, is that 30.30 87.10 or... however, a lot of trees there, I like that.

Yes--30.30 87.10 -- there were a lot more trees before Ivan --I lost 5 trees in my yard.

If you want to see one of the hardest hit areas look at these coordinates--30 19 29.00 N and 87 22 35.50-- even most of the houses there that appear to be still standing were condemmed for demolition.

Skeeter, Sorry to hear that Sad Due to "humans doing business as usual" I lost ~20 30 year old trees 20 years ago and 10 years ago ~30 40 year old trees. This 2nd time my heart almost jumped out. For the very same reason I lost ~10 young trees last fall, long story ... but I'm planting again and again.

Thanks Ivica-- Sorry to hear about your trees as well. The brite side is that I now have more room for citrus trees.

We finally have a nice sunny day! I almost forgot what the sun looked like!

Is there anyway I can see this arial view that you are talking about? Can you post a link? You are talking of damage from Ivan, Skeet, didn't you get some damage from Katrina too?

Once you download google earth you can look at satellite pictures from all over the world. You can take a tour of the grand canyon like you are flying in a plane--it's great. You can zoom in and see detail down to feet.

No Patty, we did not get much damage from Katrina-- a little damage on the beach--but that was already in shambles from Ivan.

Google has it set up now so you can just go to google.com, and click on "Maps". Then double click on the place you want to view. Keep clicking until it gets the size you want. At any time you want to see the satellite view, simply click on "Satellite".

Gosh! Now I have to stop going around with my shoes untied! Better be careful of what else I am doing around the yard too. LOL
