Has anyone ever seen Key Lime seeds? I know that it is something that does not happen often, but I was wondering about the size of the seeds. I cut one open and in the middle where the line is I found a bunch of teeny tiny seeds imbedded along the line.

I've been growing several batches of key lime seeds... I know anytrime I cut one open, I found at least 4 seeds, often more like 10. Very easy to grow. Mine were sprouted in a week to 10 days. I know have well over 60 seedlings, at 6/7 weeks post planting they are all one their 3rd set of leaves and about 2-4 inches tall |

Were your seeds very, very tiny?
I swear that I read some where that it is not very often to find seeds in them. _________________ Disneygirl |

they were a little smaller than a lemon seed, but not much. and believe me... of any fruit (citrus) I have ever eaten... Key limes... are ALWAYS filled with seeds!! I know that I often found many immature seeds in my key limes. I seemed to have better luck in finding mature seeds in the fruit that was turning slightly yellow.
the good thing about panting key limes from seeds is that they are fast growing and are one of the easiest to get fruiting from seed (and fastest) on average with all the right conditions... 2-4 years. without having to mess with grafting
I'm pretty sure its the bearrs lime that rarly has the seeds. |

Well I took the teeny tiny seeds (what I believe) and planted them This morning. Maybe they were immature seeds. I guess I'll just wait and see what happens. I planted 10 in all they were about this big [ - ] , I should have taken pic's, but didn't. When I buy some more, I'll check those for seeds.

as long as the seeds weren't flat and skinny... just plump... they'll work. looking in my few last limes... the seeds are fairly small... just really plump, fat. I tried planting a few of the flat, skinny seeds and nthing ever came up
good luck with your seeds. remember... polyembrionic. might end up with more than you need! Most of mine sprouted 3 seedlings, but usually one died, so Idoubled my count |

Key limes are not ripe until they turn yellow. If you pick them green, they often have small seeds, although mine seem to have plenty of full size seeds.
If you let them turn yellow, they almost always have plenty of good seeds. I have a large flat of seedlings coming up now. |

being green, they'll still work, just matters if the seeds were mature or not. As long as they were plump and not flat... they should be just fine. reguardless of the limes color.
Most of my limes were only green, others were marbled with yellow. If I remember correctly, my lime seedlings that came from the first batch of lime seeds (were ALL green limes) are doing a lot better. Not to say that means anything. All comes down to the maurity of the seed
Have any of your spouted up yet??? It was the coolest thing watching mione spout. How did you plant your seeds, right into pot, baggy method or???
I really need to put a few new updated pics of my seedlings. Keep meaning to, but then the light gets bad and I just cant get a good pic : |

3 1/2 yrs ago I was on a palm tree forum & someone there from Netherlands asked if anyone could send him key lime seeds. They could not get those limes there. I emailed him & said I could go to my grocery store & buy some & send him seeds. He was the HAPPIEST guy in the world! Offered to send me Cherimoya seeds in exchange. I never heard of cherimoya so I typed it in on my search engine. Read up & now I have cherimoya trees that might blossom this summer. He sent me pics of his limes from baby's up till small fruits set 2 yrs later. I was sooooo happy for him! He lived in a small shack with kids to raise & I hope he's making $$$ off those limes! I since switched from aol to sbc yahoo so I don't know how to contact him.
Key limes have many seeds & the time to pick when ripe is when they start getting yellow. I bought RIPE limes (some yellow on rind) so seeds were plump & ready.
It is Bearss (tahiti, persian) limes that don't have seeds or maybe, one in a thousand or so fruits.

O.K. I went out and bought a bag (instead of 2 or 3 individuals) of key limes for $2.34. Some of them were turning yellow. So hopefully I'll get some good seeds. I really had to look for a bag that had some limes with yellow on them.
??? Are key limes themselves always so tiny???

key limes are usually around the size of a golf ball. nice and little. TONS of juice. I tend to get more juice from a key lime than the larger limes they have at the store. nice and juicy. granted, its the main variety of lime I've used latly. Only can buy then a few months, if that, a year around here... so I go crazy. 2.50 for a bag of 20.... cant go wrong |

I would love to have a Key Lime tree. Problem is that the limes sold here in Belgium rarely (or never) contain seeds... Is it normal that they don't and do I just have to keep looking for one that does? Thank you for the advice.
