Oh yes, Marc! We've been eating our Valentines for about a week, now. In fact, had one this morning. They ripening right on time and they stay very well on the tree. Here's a few pics for you:

The mandarins are a couple of Ponkans I snagged while picking these 3 Valentines, for size comparison (and for lunch of course!) This one I cut in half was not as pigmented as the ones we've had so far, but they are very sweet, and you can taste very clearly, all 3 citrus in this fruit's background - the mandarin, the blood orange and the pummelo. It has a very complex, interesting and delicious flavor. If you can ever get this cultivar Marc, I would highly recommend it. Plus, the tree is nice and vigorous. One of my top 5 most favorite citrus in my collection.

How many weeks does it hold at your place?

Well, good question. To be truthful, this is the first year I've had enough fruit to let some hang. So far, it's been about 2 weeks since we first starting picking them. I left them on last year well into March, just to make sure there were nice and sweet, since it was the first year for fruit. They were just fine. Supposedly ripe around mid-February, and this year, that held true. So, I'll let you know how the last one tastes. We probably have about 6 more on this young tree still left to pick.

You make it sound delicious Patty! Razz Laughing
If I would ever taste one, it would have to be a fruit from the market, but I don't expect it to appear on the market anytime soon. New products don't appear on the market here very often. This winter is the second season we're seeing cara cara oranges here.
And even if I manage to get my hands on a valentine tree, I'll never be able to grow a fruit to full ripeness here... Sad

My valentine trees have produced their first fruits. They are about the size of a soft ball, and getting very yellow. I think I will pick them on February 14 (Valentines Day). - Millet

Millet, let some ripen longer. Mine are better at the end of February. Less acidic, and have a fuller flavor.

Yes, I am still alive! Wink

Patty, what rootstock is your Valentine from Durling on? I see at UCR they are shown to be growing on Carrizo citrange, C-35 citrange, Rich 16-6 trifoliate. I figured I'd try it on C-35 but am not sure that's the best choice.

Any change in impressions on the fruit, Patty? Millet, how did yours turn out?

I'm considering making a small commercial planting of them. Just early stages of thinking about it.
