Hey Stress...I have several going in containers right now. My largest seedling has a trunk about an inch in diameter. I grafted two great varieties to it last year. I've not used anything special or unique for the soil mix...just whatever I had on hand. They are tolerant of a wide range of soil types and PH...just as long as it drains well. Much better looking plant than my sugar apples. |

Patty,
The term "liner" is quite nebulous in its definition. But in general, it means the smallest size of a plant being grown by the particular nursery growing it, but always smaller than a 1-gallon pot. If they are quite small (say under a cup in volume) they may also be called "Plugs," which are normally attached, many in a tray. Or they may be in the deeper forestry -style pots. But there really is no hard and fast rule beyond that, on calling something a liner.

Ohiojay, did you grow them from seed? How tall and old are they now? Did they fruit?
On a similar note I've been looking for sugar apple and soursop fruits to grow from seed. |

HT...grew them all from seed a few years back. A fellow enthusiast from a California group sent me several scions that I grafted to my largest plant and several smaller ones. My largest plant is currently about 4' tall. It has been pruned back several times. No fruit yet. I believe the varieties are Saba and Pierce. There were two others but the all the remaining grafts failed.
I'm sure there are some online sources for sugar apple seeds...or...find a Florida member who could send you some. My only beef with this fruit is that it seems to have more seeds than even cherimoyas. There is supposedly a seedless variety which I'm trying to graft now...3 out of 4 have already failed with the 4th in question.
Soursop??? Have you tasted soursop? I have and I will sum up my own personal experience/opinion of this fruit with a comment made from a buddy who tried it at the same time in Florida a few years ago. He said: "tastes like sour feet and vomit". Again...just our opinion!! |
