Laaz, just keep us posted, sorry for all the headaches. This IS the preeminent citrus forum out there. Moderators will follow you I am sure. Just let us know what you decide to do. _________________ Patty S.

Laaz,
What makes you think they are blocking you because you have a fast connection?
If you mean the message that pops up once in a while about being blocked for SPAM and to retry in a few minutes, I think that is them reaching a limit for number of users or their server being too busy.
I'm a computer consultant so I frequently look at this forum and others while I am waiting for something to finish at a customer's site. I've seen that message on very slow DSL connections and a customers $4,000 per month connection. My home connection is 75Mb/35Mb FIOS and I don't see it any more often on that connection.
They say they have a server with 4 Xeon CPUs and a 100Mb connection. That really doesn't mean much because I'm regularly putting Multi-Xeon Servers in the eWaste because they are too obsolete to be usable. Are they hosting this in Italy? |

I agree with Patty, this is the best site for info related to citrus on the web. I'm sure the mods as well as many of the other regular members, such as myself, would be willing to help out if a transition to another hosting service becomes necessary.
By the way, I have not had any problems with accessing the site so far this weekend. |

I am using a proxy at this time because forumup blocked my ip address for 24 hours because of flooding.
I sometimes get the 'to many connections' error from php and today it got me so annoyed I pressed F5 for 15 seconds resulting in a 24 hour block. Darn! _________________ growing (at least trying): C. sinensis, C. latifolia, C. limon, C. mitis |

Looks like the forum is based on phpbb, which as free/open-source you could run yourself on your own server & connection... but the cost of a business internet connection may be higher than a dedicated forum hosting service. I know most ISPs won't let you run a public server for very long without a business level account. PHPBB has their own suggested hosting providers: https://www.phpbb.com/hosting/
vBulletin is another big one. |

When I saw the "anti-hacker protection" page I always assumed it was throttling everybody and not each client specifically. I would get it even on the first hit of a day, didn't seem to be related to my usage.
I guarantee that bots are constantly trying to brute force passwords and spam which is likely what is causing this, but the fact that the hosting provider cannot handle this more gracefully is just poor design on their part. It isn't a unique problem to solve. |

Okay, no matter what I've tried to do, I cannot get the email notifications to work for me. Ever since we starting having issues with the forum, the email notifications have disappeared. It is enabled in my settings. I've disabled it and saved that setting, then gone back in and re-enabled it. I've saved the email address to my Address Book (in case it's something on my end), but I am still not being notified if I have a Message, or a response to one of the threads I'm following, or a message I've posted. I tried to go to ForumUp.org, and register to ask over there, but apparently my IP address is banned for some inexplicable reason (I've tried 3 different email addresses and User ID's, so the forum must be banning my IP address). And of course, no way to contact the forum owners or moderators, since I can't get logged in! _________________ Patty S.

Patty, the sender of a mail doesn't use your IP address, only the mailbox provider.
I don't understand the sentence "no way to contact the forum owners or moderators, since I can't get logged in".
How do you change your settings and how do you post if you cannot get logged? |

Sylvian, what I am referring to is the MAIN ForumUp.org forum - not our Citrus Growers Forum, obviously I have no issues logging in here . I was trying to report my issues directly to ForumUp, of not receiving an email notification when a thread I'm following is updates, or if I get a Private Message up at ForumUp. I'm set in my Profile to receive those email notifications, and the email address is correct. So, I have no idea why I'm not receiving emails.
What I mean about blocking an IP address, is in trying to join the MAIN ForumUp forum (not in reference to receiving emails from this forum). No matter what email address I used and user name, I kept being told I had been banned. The only way for a forum to know that, is by someone's IP address (which this forum has the capability of doing - blocking someone's actual computer IP address, so they can rejoin using different emails and user names). I do not understand why I would be banned - I've never even joined that forum, nor to my knowledge, every misbehaved so badly here that it would cause me to get banned at the parent forum!?! And, no way to notify anyone at ForumUp of this. So.....long story short, I have no way to get help for my issue _________________ Patty S.

The main web site of Form-up has a contact link. Click on it and send them an E-mail. I sent them an E-mail a week or so ago. - Millet |

Thanks, Millet. I looked for something like that and could not find it. I'll look again.
Edit - can't find it, Millet. I see a link to Support, a link to Good customer service 24-7-365, and a link to "Contact us by visiting Help Forum" all of which requires me to log in. No link to an email address or a help form to fill out. _________________ Patty S.
