Hello to all! We have had -30 C or so. It is the worst winter during the last 30 years. In my greenhouse was +0,6 C. I made some automatic device that measured temperature from 6 sensors and stored all data into a SD memory card. My device control the ventilation system and earth accumulation system. The temperature of soil is +3,3 C. Today the temperature (as i told early) was dropped to +0,6 C. My device turned the accumulation system on so that the temperature recovered to +1,1 C and system was turned off. When the temperature will be above zero by celsius a make some pics and share them on our forum. |

It was +0,6 on height 0,2 m above ground level and +0,4 C on height 0,8 m above ground level. It was 2-3 days. Usually was +1 +1,4 C. |

I look forward to see the finished result.
Can you tell us more about the build? What will you change and why?
If it works at -30 deg C, maybe it could even work up here |

I'm going to
- expand size of my greenhouse. Previous two were 6,8 and 4,5 m2. This must be 20,5 m2;
- build wall with such powerful material as concrete bricks;
- make my greenhouse more deeper so that i can extract more heat from the ground;
- use two layers of policarbonate with air space 20 mm between these layers. It equal to the one inch of styrofoam. It can help to store heat;
- use styrofoam shields 0,75 - 1 m to insulate walls from the ground freezing in winter;
- build entrance so that i can enter greenhouse in winter. |

serj, to obtain any R-factor benefit (extra warmth) when using double-wall polycarbonate, you have to tightly cap both ends of the sheet. I presume in the Ukraine polycarbonate comes open ended, just as it does here in America. Looks like it will be a nice greenhouse. - Millet |

Interesting.
The 2-layer polycarbonate is for the roof I suppose? Something like this: ?
Do you mean 0.75-1m thick styrofoam for the walls?!
How far below the ground level is the floor going to be?
Do you have any numbers for how cold the ground will be at a certain distance below ground level?
How does you accumulator system work? Maybe I missed something obvious. Does it transport hot water from deeper under ground? |

Yes, i'm going to use two layers as it showed on the picture.
No, 0.75 m in depth and 2-inches thick. Our ground freezes about 0,5 m in depth (usually).
My accumulator is air that circulate throught pipes. |

Serj , that is beautifull
My guess is that you won't build a 50m2 next year
Why don't you use AAC (Autoclaved Aerated Concrete) , it is more light and more responsive to heat and insulate better than concerte blocks
I will watch your construction as I will need something like this too in the near future
See Ya

Daniel, Autoclaved Aerated Concrete is more expensive than concrete. I suppose twice. And i want so that one half of wall (deeper) conduct heat from the ground and upper part of wall with styrofoam don't conduct heat.
About 50 m2 - i don't have enought place to build it. |
