"...The new version of the map is complete and ready for publication, but the date of publication depends on the release of funds, which depends on a procurement department of the government that is not part of the USDA. Kim Kaplan hopes publication will come “soon.” I do too. I want to plant ‘Oshio-beni’ for the brilliant red it turns in Fall.

When the new map appears, you will find it at YourGardenShow.com, where I’ll be celebrating with my colleagues and with fellow-gardeners from around the world..."

CNN reported today (1-12-11) that in the USA, 49 out of the 50 states currently has snow on the ground, including Hawaii. The lone holdout is Florida. On the old map I was zone 5, under the new map I am still zone 5. - Millet (733-)

I guess this is proof that we indeed have global warming. Correct? If it wasn't for global warming we would have all of the states covered by ice as we would be still living in the Ice Age. So I guess we have had global warming for a very long time so I am no longer a skeptic about global warming I am convinced, I just cant understand why we are having colder winters now that I have so many citrus trees growing outside now.

This winter and last winter have been much colder than the winters the past 15 years. I do not know if this is a trend or a blip that will fade. NAO has been mostly negative for the past two years which is very unusual and should not happen if global warming is true.

Years ago Pensacola Florida was zone 9. We didn't have A and B back then. It was changed to 8b and now it looks like I will be 9a. I sure am glad the global cooling I've been experience for the last twenty years is over and we can return to normalcy!

The link was in the first post. Here it is.

It is a little hard to see details on it and you kinda have to guess what each zone is based on where they used to be.

how many times have they updated the zone map? it would be kind of interesting if someone could put them into one image/video and have the oldest morph into the newest. showing how the zones move around.

That and I wonder how much they have really moved. There are probably 100x's more reporting stations now to refine the lines. All I want to be is 9b and I'd be happy for a little while till I realized how much more I could grow if I was just a 10a. LOL It's always greener on the other side till you get there and look back across the fence.

Charles, I did look at your link and thank you for that. I was hoping for a bigger map somewhere.

And a year later it's here:
"The 2012 USDA Plant Hardiness Zone Map"
http://planthardiness.ars.usda.gov/PHZMWeb/

What's new:
New Data, New Zones, Finer Scale
"Zones in this edition of the USDA Plant Hardiness Zone Map (PHZM) are based on 1976–2005 weather data."
http://planthardiness.ars.usda.gov/PHZMWeb/AboutWhatsNew.aspx
