This would work if you filled a large bottle with it and used the bottle to pound on the leaves. |
Ironically, I was making a garlic-cayenne-soap spray this season... don't waste your time! |

Just hold the leaf egainst light, then you see the lil worms inside and can squeeze them.
I think themperatures under 0 ° C will kill them.
I do not believe the last winter really killed all Citrus at some areas at the Adria ... |
Sanguinello, unfortunately there are to many of those infected leafes. I should spent the whole summer squeezing miners.
Citrus trees are doing better, then predicted. Over 60.000 thousand tones of mandarines is estimated to be harvested. _________________ i am in love with lemon |

there are only Ichimaru and Zorica rana at the market in September. Those are the earliest sorts. You probably got one of those. _________________ i am in love with lemon |

They have a neck on top ... does that help to identify them ?
Did you plant your trees yet ? |

It's C. unshiu 'Wakayama' or 'Wakiyama' variety, the only satsuma mandarin (commercially grown in Croatia) with a distinctive neck. By the way it is the least quality producing mandarin. Among the best are Zorica, Chahara, Kawano Wase, Okitsu and Saigon. I've got my hands on a crate of my favorite, freshly picked, 'Zorica rana' mandarins...

Besides my friends in Japan told me it is the best ... |

Ill have to pull up the article I have from a book to fight against pests, however it has basically said there is no real way to fight the leaf miner. Spinosad was the popular weekly spray but once the little black and yellow flies that lay the leaf miner larvea, the leaf protects the larvae from poison. Also by spraying poison weekly, it kills the bee population that pollinates the flowers. Luckily in CA, we only get hit in August and September.
The book did recommend to plant some sort of lavender type plant (I can't recall what it is) that attracts a wasp that is a natural predator to the CLM fly that produces the larvae, but who wants wasps in their yard? Ill post a scanned image of the article if anybody is interested.
In CA they only seem to go after my Limes (primarily Key/Mexican) and Orange trees, but stay away from the lemons and Kumquats. Is that common or are the Lemons just lucky? _________________ Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power.

Just lucky. Bayer advance will take care of leafminers, it is taken up through the roots. _________________ Wal-Mart a great place to buy cheap plastic crap ! http://walmartwatch.com/ ...

Yes, just lucky, or your other citrus didn't have tender enough new flush. They will all get hit. We have extremely heavy pressure here in S. Calif. with CLM. Spinosad and Volk or Neem oil mixed together does actually work, but you have to spray every 3 weeks, starting at the beginning of July. Or, you can apply Bayer Advanced Citrus & Vegetable Insect Control at the end of June/beginning of July and be done with the little buggars. And, they are not black and yellow flies. the CLM is a moth. Very tiny, but not a fly. If you start spraying at the beginning of July, and are vigilant, you should keep them off. Or, simply apply Bayer once and be done with it. _________________ Patty S.
