CHC = Coconut Husk Chips

There are many threads already that discuss them, including the specific method of processing and mixing the media for potting citrus. A board search will turn them up pretty quick. Most of them are right here in the Container forum.

Alan, to answer your question about the trees that I transplanted into pure coconut products (CHC and Coir). On my last order of CHC's from the Crystal Company I was given a free bale of compressed Coir to trial. I used it to make a growing medium of 4 parts CHC and 1 part Coir, and transplanted 3 or 4 trees, but to tell you the truth, I failed to keep track of which ones they were. CHC/Coir looks almost the same as CHC/peat. They must be doing fine, as I have not had any problems. On my next order of CHC's, I am going to also purchase more Coir, and change from peat to coir. Coir lasts much longer than peat, and resist compaction much better than peat moss, plus CHC/Coir both have the same pH. However, compaction is not a problem when CHC are used anyway. - Millet
