Despite forecast of gloom and doom.. we bottomed out at 24 F! A day at the beach compared to some forecast. Our local paper had listed a low of 12F for last night. The paper called: "The Florence Morning News" also is nicknamed " The Florence Morning Mistake" LOL. All of my citrus appear to be fine! _________________ Y ORANGE U Growin Citrus

Hey Skeet, I used the micro jet sprinklers that I have installed at every tree. There was about an inch of ice on the trees when I went to check on them this morning but I hope they will be fine. I am running the sprinklers again tonite. The rest of the week looks like the temps will be OK once I get past tonite. Fingers crossed! _________________ Y ORANGE U Growin Citrus

Last night was at about 25 degrees here but tonight is supposed to be the kicker at 20 degrees. It shouldn't be a problem since my trees have weathered these temps many times in good condition. I don't usually get too alarmed until were talking mid to lower teens. |

Eyeckr, you must have some hardy citrus. I was worried about the limb grafts of my more sensitive vatieties--especially if we hit the predicted lows of 17-18. Fortunatly, I think my preparations were good enough to prevent damage even at that temp. We only dropped to 23 in my yard, but the below freezing temps lasted for almost 18 hrs.
Lazz-- I hope all all your trees made it alright. BTW--your weather banner must be off-- it is showing 0 F (-18C) right now-- at least I hope it is off! _________________ Skeet

It got down to 17 here last night. One Thomasville isn't happy, my Tiachang is frowning, lost a few Lemandarin fruit but the tree looks good. All the other trees still look ok including my Changsha, Yuzuquat, Sinton, Glen citrangedin, Kimbrough(w/ protection)satsuma, etc. One more freezing night to get through yet though so we'll see. We've had 35 consecutive hours of freezing temps in the last couple of days. |

The news reported that in Florida they have iguanas falling from the trees. They are a non-native species and escaped/abandoned iguanas that are living in the trees start hibernating in the cold and loose their grip in the trees. Never mind the phrase, "it's raining cats and dogs"; how about the phrase "it's raining cold blooded reptiles".

Temps here finally went UP to 25 after a long spell and 0 readings. I know this front went all the way to the Caribbean. Hope you folks down south stay warm! My citrus all look fine! Going to 50 in Chicago on Monday, unbelievable. Maybe drag out a Satsuma! Won't last long though. |
