My daughter took all these beautiful pictures which were reduced down in size for faster uploading. This is what caught her interest during our walk in the garden.
The Butchart Gardens main feature is their sunken garden which was carved out from the mining of limestones to produce the famous Portland cement. Mr. Butchart dug out the limestones and Mrs. Butchart was very creative and turned the big hole into a beautiful garden. Being super-rich, they gathered many exotic plants all over the world and some of them you can still find it here. The garden is 55 acres and more than 100 years old in bloom.
It is very relaxing to walk in the very beautiful garden. My tiny disappointment is that the only edible fruits that I saw were figs and pomegranates. There are no real live kois in the Japanese garden. It is very clean with almost no leaf in any of the garden pathway. I wonder how they keep this garden in ever-blooming mode. But truly relaxing and worth every dollar to get in there.
I was really impressed on how well they kept their hanging baskets of live flowers, all their potted plants, and I didn't see any automatic watering system for these. Either that they have hidden the emitters very well or that all of these potted and hanging plants must be manually watered, container by container.
Enjoy the pics.
