About the taxes, we have the same but (till now) none on dogs! Laughing

About "it was so better in the old days", maybe it was better 100 years ago but then came 1929!!!

Personal Property Tax

That is a good one. Here in South Carolina everything is considered property tax. Every year we have to pay a property tax on our cars, motorcycles and boats. Here's the kicker, If your boat has a inboard motor you pay a single tax. If your boat has an outboard motor you pay a tax on the boat & another tax on the motor...

We have that too, plus we also pay taxes on the trailer.

Now there is one thing we have going for us... We are not required to register trailers. No tags, no registration.

I paid $50.00 to renew my bartenders license in Dec. No one knows what it's for - where it goes.
There's also Self Employment tax.
Licenses for almost every occupation (beautician, barber, lawyer, Dr. etc.).
Separate license for driving truck, motorcycle, operating engineer.
I'm sure there's more.

Also, what about toll fees on highways? Illinois & Pennsylvania are high.

Do not forget about the pass-through state and federal utilities taxes. I only saw the telephone tax in your list.

I think it is time to end entitlement programs that our country has grown custom to and bring back the gold standard.

My wife and I are in Philadelphia working at The American Ivy Society's booth, at the Philadephia Flower show. In some of the larger flower arrangements, Citrus trees are being used (mostly Calamondins, Mandarins, and even a Velencia). - Millet

It looks like we may soon be adding the C-SCUT to this list of taxes. This is the name I think we should call the TARP bonus reimbursement tax, should it pass. Any guesses on what the acromym stands for? Barbara

TAX on Income Tax Refunds is the worst tax of all and it is unfair and illogical. OUR POLITICIANS DON'T KNOW SIMPLE MATH LOGIC!

Here in California, they can TAX your income tax REFUND because it is considered as a taxable income! Whoever came up with this absurd illogical idea and all those who support it should go back to school and relearn Math.

The most common reason why you had a tax refund is because you overpaid from your own money earned and it was already taxed. Letting someone hold your money and getting it back without interest doesn't mean you earn that same amount money as an income.

Most of us would rather overpay than underpay taxes because we don't want penalties from insufficient withholding taxes. We just let the government hold our extra money, and they could earn interest from it, and if you get it back, it becomes a taxable earning? How in the ... ?

You get taxed based on the total amount of money you earned for the year. Whether you let somone hold your extra money or you spent it all you still get taxed for that same amount of money. A refund is actually your money that you let the government hold for you, and when you get it back it is not an earning, because it was already part of your earning for that taxable year, and you have been taxed on your earning for that year.

If you paid just the proper amount of taxes, there would have been no problem, but often when there's a little adjustment, you will be paying big time because of penalties. So significant portion of us overpay to safeguard from the penalties.

I have a feeling that the tea bag thing will go over real well. I got emails from everywhere about it so it is going around.
