The next time you hear a politician in this present congress use the word 'billion' in their usual casual manner, think about whether you want them spending YOUR tax dollars. A billion is a difficult number to comprehend:
A. - A billion seconds ago it was 1959.
B. - A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive.
C. - A billion hours ago our ancestors were living in the stone age.
D.- A billion days ago no-one walked the earth on two feet.
E. - A billion dollars ago was ONLY 8 HOURS AND 20 minutes, at the rate our politicians are freely spending it.
While this thought is still fresh in our minds lets take a look at New Orleans's Senator Mary Landrieu (D) who is presently asking congress for 250 BILLION DOLLARS to rebuild New Orleans. Well, if you are one of the 484,674 residents of New Orleans, every man, woman & child would get $516,528.00. If you own one of the 188,251 homes in New Orleans, your home will get $1,329,787.00. - Millet (1,422-) |

Millet, can't you think that a state is made of many things else than private homes? Don't you know that there are streets, state buildings like city all, universities, schools and bridges, dikes, gymnasium, cinemas, swimming pools, libraries, hospitals, kids play ground, music halls, post station, train station, houses for old people, farms, ships...
Can't you have a little empathy with other people?
I hope a hurricane will not destroy every thing around you.
Sylvain, with a not long lasting mail. |

Sylvain,
The USA did not become the SuperPower it is, at such a young age, by employing European socialistic ideologies. We got there by private enterprise and capitalistic achievement. |

I read that same thing recently somewhere. 250 BILLION is just too much money for one city. Look at the figures again... it's true.
Millet is right in that it is hard to fathom how much a billion is. I liked the comparison -to seconds, minutes, days etc.
He never said he didn't want to help New Orleans.
Maybe 250 MILLION --- NOT 250 BILLION!!!! _________________ Patty

Your country has been in a hole for so long, how would you know the difference? |

Sylvain, my friend. Because you are French, you cannot be expected to know, but New Orleans is not, as you wrote above, a State. New Orleans is merely just a city. - Millet (1,422-) |

I don't know there, but here if you want millions, you must ask for billions. |

Sylvain, I think you over reacted and, you owe Millet an apology.
This country is freedom of speech but, you should think before you write your words and stop 'assuming'.

You are right - you don't know here. This is not France and I like it that way

Whether anyone likes it or not, there is a lot of truth to it. Most all of the worlds economies are tided to the US. When we had the Wall street meltdown, it effected the entire world economy not just ours.

Yes we did. That was years ago though. Now the system is based on greed and corruption... _________________ Wal-Mart a great place to buy cheap plastic crap ! http://walmartwatch.com/ ...

That is true in some sections of the population, but not everywhere. Like it or not both are human emotions and exist throughout the world. Also, greed breeds innovation. By your rational, anyone who has ever sold anything for a profit is greedy, because profit by its' very nature is greed. |

There is a point where profit ends and greed takes over. Look at the news every day. The Bernard Madoff's of this country are exploding every day at an alarming rate... _________________ Wal-Mart a great place to buy cheap plastic crap ! http://walmartwatch.com/ ...

Quote: | Personal Property Tax |
That is a good one. Here in South Carolina everything is considered property tax. Every year we have to pay a property tax on our cars, motorcycles and boats. Here's the kicker, If your boat has a inboard motor you pay a single tax. If your boat has an outboard motor you pay a tax on the boat & another tax on the motor... _________________ Wal-Mart a great place to buy cheap plastic crap ! http://walmartwatch.com/ ...
