Looks like they changed the date to sometime in March. Sad

Very frustrating. I have now asked for each of those day's off for PTO. I need to give my company a certain amount of lead time for PTO, plus myself due to my work schedule, which is committed up to 4 weeks ahead of time with patient appointments. I am going to see if I can figure out what day they plan on in March. Also sadly, most citrus varieties will be long gone by then (i.e., any satsuma). Bad timing.

I know what you mean. I was about to request the day off this week. I dont know if March is feasible for me. Well, there is always next year if its not possible.

True. I think it's getting harder for UCR to try to coordinate these events due to budgetary cutbacks. I did contact Dr. Kahn, and she is trying to get through the big industry citrus day, first, and then will post up the public date as quickly as they can. She appreciated the frustration. So, patience will be a virtue for me Smile

None of use can blame them. I really need to attend the classes though. I don't know what the heck I'm doing. Shocked

Their "Citrus Trees in the Garden" two-day class is very much worth your time and money. Both Tom Shea and Dr. Tracy Kahn co-teach this course, and it is really an excellent class. The first session is Friday evening and taught by Tom. It's a classroom session and Tom does a great job covering citrus from top to bottom. The Saturday session is a tour of the Citrus Variety Collection by Dr. Kahn. That of course, goes without saying. Anyone who lives in S. California, and serious about citrus should take the opportunity to tour the collection, and should also consider donating to the collection. All the varieties I have in my garden are due to the efforts of the Collection and CCPP. It's a not to miss. Here is the link for anyone interested in attending this class, which is coming right up.

I cant go anywhere on fridays after work or saturday mornings. I have to watch my son while my daughter and wife do their girl scouts and classes. I will have to wait for that class till next year. I'll just wing it till then.

UCR Citrus Day For Public
I was thinking of maybe going but after I see the itinerary I think I will pass.

Insect control for common and exotic species of citrus trees
Selection of trees
Site assessment
Planting
Feeding
Irrigation
Disease

None of the above offers any new information that would entice a trip to California and set through these speeches. Colorado has no citrus diseses nor any bugs, other than the common three (aphids, scale, and mealy) and they are easy to control. The variety collection is interesting, but I have been there and done that. - Millet

You know, Millet, last year the topics were breeding techniques and what citrus are bred for (taste, qualities, etc), cultivars, pest control, asian citrus psyllid, as well as a huge taste tasting table with a really large number of cultivars to taste. I bet this agenda changes, where are you finding the agenda? If you really want the rundown, I would contact Tracy Kahn, and see if she's put together the final agenda to see if it's worth your while to come out. I'll be there, so if anyone would like to meet up, that would be a lot of fun.
