Trifoliata makes a very good lemonade, people! You won't believe it but you can get rid of the nasty taste quite easily.
Put the juice in a glas and let it stand open during the night. The resin falls to the ground. And the strange etherical oils disappear to such a great extend that you can hardly taste them. Then mix the juice (the clear fraction) with water and suggar and you will have a very very good lemonade with a good orange flavour comparable to Meyer Lemon lemonade.
You don't believe that? Just try it yourself. I have given this lemonade to six people and all said it is really good. And I inquired whether there is something objectable in the lemonade, and all said no.
Just try before you recall all prejudices! I myself had not believed it.

I must only add: The taste differs from Poncirus to Poncirus. Very bad tasting Poncirus still makes a good lemonade although some faint off flavors remain. But I have also found a Poncirus that makes such a good lemonde that you would perhaps prefere it over Meyer Lemon.

So again, try!

Considering that rubbing alcohol (denatured ethanol or isopropyl) will remove the resin, I'm really curious whether the off tastes remain if you add a neutral spirit to poncirus (vodka, up to pure grain alcohol).

In other words, it might make a perfectly acceptable screwdriver.

Why would anyone bother to use poncirus trifoliata to make lemonade, instead of using fresh lemons? - Millet

Because Poncirus contains not enough juice that you really enjoy using the fruit. And using lemons, you do not need to let the juice stand over night. But the Poncirus lemonade I have tasted was far better than common lemon lemonade. It was more fruity and had a good orange flavor while lemons (not Meyer Lemon which is better) have a somewhat sterile taste.

A high acid fruit like lemons have a sterile taste - really? Just try convincing the public of that. - Millet

Well, "sterile" is probably not the best word. What I meant was that lemon has not a very complex flavor, just lemon, while Poncirus has a strong citrus flavor and also a pretty good orange note.
But try the lemonade yourself. Nothing counts as much as experience. I have got the first feedback from others that the recipe really works.

Because some places can look like this in early November.

Poncirus grows here; lemons do not.

From the fruit I have picked, which may be a poor sampling of what is out there, a good tasting Poncirus-ade can be made from it's juice. When diluted in a similar manner as lemon juice and sweetened, it is enjoyable. There is little juice, which is a problem unless a lot of fruit is available.

I think there are more flavors in Poncirus-ade than lemonade, a little bit of grapefruit and some other flavors besides the main lemon background.

bussone, your picture makes me feel right at home, it certainly looks like Colorado. All the Colorado ski resorts are now open. Next time you are in Colorado stop by, we can spent the weekend skiing at Aspen. As for the lemons, I bet you can easily find lemons at the local store.- Best Regards Millet
