What citrus cultivar have you had the most problems with? For me it has hands-down been Meyer Lemon. Scale, Mealy bugs, mites, extreme leaf-miner damage, aphids, black mold, deficiencies, caterpillars, snails, even squirrels messing with the fruit...it doesn't seem to matter, everything hits my Meyer lemon trees. I have two trees that have all these issues in the same vicinity of other citrus that have little to no issues.
Is this coincidental? Does anyone else have issues with one cultivar more than others? |

Cannot be the Meyer, for it is one of the main coltivars ...
For me the original Meyer was found in a Shanghai back yard and is just a marvelous fruit.
The so called IMPROVED one, I really hate ... all the advantages of the original got lost, the marvellous taste included ... |

The original was carrier of the Citrus tristeza virus.

We in europe have virus free ones and the so called IMPROVED is completely unknown here ... |

My vote goes for: variegated Meyer lemon.
After a 3 years having that I'm still waiting for a fruit.
Well, I don't give up so easily  so I have 2 more trees now, air-layered last year.

I have yet to see a "true" variegated Meyer lemon. There was a place in TX a few years back selling variegated Meyer lemons that turned out to be regular pink Eureka lemons.

If never fruits, then you will not see the pink pulp .. 
Anyways, I like the variagated ones even if no fruits, they are just too beautiful ..  |

Yes, Laaz, I'm wondering too. And that is the main reason why I propagated the tree...
Still expecting to see a fully developed fruit...

No, the problem is related with roots. Imagine tree potted in a brick, that was it. Took me 2 years to get rid of original soil...
The tree has 5 fruitlets now...
And something maybe even more interesting is there, stay tuned - I'll open separate topic for that, later this summer.

Ah, always troubles with that dense clay ...
I just wash such soils out and give them a well drained one with lots of air in it. |

Ivica The test is to let them fully ripen on the tree. As you know Meyer will turn orange when fully rip, not yellow. Meyer also gets a "off" flavor when fully ripe.
I use my Meyers when they are between green & almost yellow, once they start to turn orange I throw them away as the taste gets poor.

If they do not turn orange, they are not Meyer.

There was no breeding involved to create the improved Meyer lemon. During the 1950's, a search was done to find a Meyer lemon tree that did not carry the Tristeza virus. One tree was found and trees propagated from that one tree became the improved Meyer lemon. It is genetically identical to all other Meyer lemons.
