The wind was very bad here early this am..
I was woke up at about 3 am.. the wind howling.. then the thunder and lightning..
Daylight came and I found what REALLY woke me up..
This tree is right across the street from me..

bee hive that was in one of the branches..

My neighbor said the tree was over 200 yrs old..

I know this is the tree my owls moved to when my trees were taken down.. Not sure where the owls will go now.. very sad to see such a large tree down.. Neighbor said it will be a few months before she can have the tree removed..

City crew, phone co, cable co all working over time today putting lines back up and cleaning up..
Amazingly My property sustained no damage..
I was told winds were around 70mph..

Poor tree...
It looked like it has to retire, base on the inside out. Sometimes trees like this, if we know are hollowed out from the inside, the engineers would put steel anchors and fill up with concrete so that they would last several hundred years more. It's too late now...

Perhaps they try to relocate the bees safely, and the poor owls I hope that they find good roosting places nearby.

It's sad to see these old trees go. I had a customer once that had a very sad story. His house was next to an old Valley Oak that was six feet in diameter. Sometimes in a heat spell the fluids rush to the branches so quickly that they will snap under the weight. This happened and crashed onto his living room. His insurance company hired a bonded tree company to remove the tree since it was determined to be unsafe. The company had it all tied with cables etc. but, apparently, were not adequately prepared. When they cut down the tree it fell onto the rest of his house and his home was completely destroyed! Shocked
