That is great news Lazz! Our low here was 30. I think we have dodged the bullet! I hope everyone else woke up to higher than predicted temps.

We had a forecasted low of 23, but an actually low of only 30 here on Hilton Head. Makes me mad because I picked off the last of my citrus last night anticipating a freeze. Anybody know of a good recipe with 35 Meyer lemons? Stupid Weather Channel.

27 degrees at six o’clock this morning. Much better than the possible 23 degrees predicted on the 10 o’clock news.

It is still 23 here, but that is better than the lowest prediction of 17 (although that temp was hit within the loca TV channel viewing area). I think our biggest problem will be the legnth of time it was below freezing--probably around 16-17 hours as it will likely not get above freezing until after 9 am.

Jack-- check out the lemon pie recipe I recently posted. As for my lemons, I think my protection worked--I checked the water in the kiddie pool this morning and there was no ice. I picked a little over a dozen lemons, but left most of the lemons on the tree--planning to juice them if they froze.

Shirlee, I see your weather banner at 23--it looks like it was here--temp continued to drop after daylight.

Jack, I don't know if it will work, but I have been told you could freeze the lemons whole, and take them out one at a time to use them. My wife put a few in the freeze as a trial. I will post the result.

Here is a picture I took this afternoon after 3 nights of frigid weather. The coldest was 18F but the night before was 24F and the night after 24F. I ran the misters on the grove every night and other than some limb breakage from all the ice, they appear to be fine. I will post a close up of one of the trees in a seperate posting. Heres a pic of the grove this afternoon. Notice the small chuncks of ice to the left in the picture.

Stan, Are you using just an overhead spray or do you have an angle- head jet that I do not see spraying the trunk (that was what Auburn had set-up at the Fairhope seminar).

I just finished the freeze preparations (at 10:30 pm) for the second go round--mid-upper 20s predicted tonight. This one should be short and not as bad as the last one, but I went ahead and wrapped things up pretty good.

Looks like we got down to 28 last night, but will do the same tonight.

Looks like you guys on the East coast will get colder than us this time--are some of you going to get into the teens?

We are supposed to hit 22 f tonight at the airport, so I'm guessing about 25-26 here. The tender stuff goes in the garage, the in ground stuff will deal with the cold...

I just heard a news report of the cold hitting the SE. Our forecast 23 (-5c) tonight, 27 (-3c) tomorrow night and right through the week. Cold for my citrus but not cold enough for a rink for the kids Sad . (Last year the rink worked out well - for the 3 days) .
