I'm going to give my mother a few trees and plant them in the ground for her. They are currently in CHC, so I'm worried about the medium falling away and these trees more or less going in ground bare rooted. Any experience with this?

The place I'm going to put the trees is slightly below grade. Can I use top soil to elevate the grade and create a sort of raised bed?

On the top itll be fine just dont mix in with the native soil around the roots.
I usually put some fully composted maure on the top also space a good 6 inches fromt he trunk.

I tend to have good success with bare- rooting / partial bare rooting.

When dormant I totally bare root-- when not dormant , I have had good success removing about half or so-- less of a shock.
